To assist in implementing evaluation of new rice varieties and farmer-participatory research on cropping options to increase and sustain productivity of rice-based cropping systems. This will include assistance to conduct training courses, participatory varietal selection, and monitoring of farmer demonstration trials. Work closely with the project scientists and NGO partners, and actively team up with others in the project. This position will be located in Labutta, Myanmar.
MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
• Assist in running trials, maintenance and data gathering of PVS trials of new rice varieties in two townships of the Ayeyarwady delta lower regions (Labutta).
• Assist in conducting large-scale farmer’s managed trials (baby trial) of farmer’s preferred varieties and in data gathering and processing.
• Assist in training courses on PVS, natural resource management and post harvest management.
• Assist in conducting post harvest trials and in data gathering and processing in Bogale.
• Effective collaboration with NGO partners, and local MAS staff. Perform all other related duties that may be assigned from time to time by the supervisor
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
• BSc in Plant breeding, Agronomy or related fields
• 2 years relevant experience in crop science field research, and training
• Good oral and written communication in English; good computer skills especially data encoding and analysis, spread sheets and graphic presentation; must have the ability to deal with research collaborators; managing experiments under minimum supervision; must be a team player
