POST: Special Project Scientist - Pigeonpea Breeding
ICRISAT seeks applications from Indian nationals and nationals from the Asian countries for Special Project Scientist (Pigeonpea Breeding), to be based at Patancheru, Andhra Pradesh, India.

ICRISAT and its partners help empower those living in the semi-arid tropics, especially smallholder farmers, to overcome poverty, hunger, malnutrition and a degraded environment through more efficient and profitable agriculture. ICRISAT is headquartered in Greater Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India and belongs to the Consortium of Centers supported by the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR).
THE JOB: Planning and executing field, greenhouse and laboratory experiments to screen and breed for tolerance/resistance to abiotic stresses, and manage breeding activities and trials (summarize, analyze and interpret data; prepare donor reports and write research papers for publication in peer-review journals) and contribute to the preparation of new project proposals for donor funding.
THE PERSON: Scientists with a PhD degree from a reputed university in plant breeding and/or genetics, with a minimum of three to five years of post-doctoral experience as plant breeder/geneticist at a research institute/university/private sector company. Knowledge of abiotic stresses, genetics theory and their application in practical plant breeding of self- and cross- pollinated crops and computer skills related to data analysis using modern statistical packages is essential. Practical and/or theoretical knowledge of plant breeding data management software (in particular Agrobase) will be highly desirable. Fluency in spoken and written English is essential. Scientist should have aptitude to work as a member of an interdisciplinary team, including multicultural and multinational scientists, and should have the ability to interact with partner organizations.
PERIOD AND REMUNERATION: A consolidated assignment fee of Indian Rupees 50,000/- (in equivalent US dollars for expatriate candidates) per month will be paid during the period of assignment (higher salary can be considered based on merit). The position is initially for three years and may be extended depending on requirement, funding availability, and performance of the incumbent.
