DOCTORAL RESEARCH AT NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF BIOMEDICAL GENOMICS
NIBMG is accepting applications from eligible candidates to pursue doctoral research at the institute under the mentorship of NIBMG faculty. The applications in the prescribed format (see below) will be accepted till the 15th of September, 2011 and a formal interview of the short-listed candidates will be held on the 20th of September, 2011. The minimum eligibility criteria for accepting students at NIBMG to pursue research leading to Ph.D. degree are:
·         Master's degree (First class or equivalent) in a relevant discipline (Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Statistics, Bioinformatics or related disciplines).
·         The candidate should have qualified NET conducted by CSIR/UGC/ICMR/DBT/ within the past ONE year AND should have been awarded a valid Junior Research Fellowship from CSIR, UGC, DST (INSPIRE), ICMR, DBT.
·         Training in genetics, human genetics or genomics.
·         Preference would be given to candidates with demonstrable research training in the form of summer training or short-term courses in established research laboratories in preparation for a research career in biomedical sciences.

Fellowship & Young Biotechnologist Award @ NIBMG

FELLOWSHIP & YOUNG BIOTECHNLOGIST AWARD

NIBMG Fellowship
Objective: To promote the goals of the Institute and to facilitate re-entry of scientists of Indian origin working abroad.
Eligibility: Applicants for this Fellowship should possess Ph.D., M.D., or an equivalent degree relevant to biomedical genomics, with an outstanding track record reflected in publications and other professional achievements. Applicants must not have affiliation to an institution in India. Awardees will carry out their scientific research in NIBMG.
Applicants who have contributed to the understanding of genetics of human diseases using phenotype information and biospecimens collected directly from patients and families, as opposed to in vitro work to obtain mechanistic views of action of genes and proteins, will be given preference. Preference will also be given to applicants with expertise and publications in statistical/computational human genomics.

Emoluments and Duration: Each NIBMG Fellow will receive a consolidated fellowship of Rs. 75,000 per month and a contingency grant (not exceeding Rs. 500,000 per annum) linked to a project to be proposed by the applicant at the time of application. The duration of the fellowship will be for a period of five years. In case an awardee during the tenure of the fellowship finds a suitable job at any research institute/university, he or she will be permitted to relinquish the fellowship and take up the job.

• Summary of pre-doctoral training (with details of major courses taken and grades obtained) [about 10 sentences],
• Highlights of doctoral training and publications [about 20 sentences],
• Highlights of post-doctoral training and publications [about 30 sentences],
• Problems to be addressed in the next 5 years, with clear indication of the importance of the problems and methodologies to be adopted in solving them [about 3 pages],
• Description of long-term (5-15 years) professional goals [ about 1 page ], and
• A specific project proposal (with clear descriptions of objectives, methodologies, importance and timelines) to be carried out in the next 5 years, with budget and justification [6-10 pages], and
• Three letters of recommendation.
Young Biotechnologist Award

Objective: To facilitate establishing a career in human genetics in India for young scientists with academic promise.
Eligibility: Applicants for this Award should possess Ph.D., M.D., or an equivalent degree relevant to biomedical genomics, with an outstanding academic record and a doctoral dissertation related to human genetics. Applicants must not have affiliation to an institution in India. Awardees will engage in human genetics research in NIBMG under the mentorship of a faculty member.
Emoluments and Duration : Each awardee will receive a consolidated remuneration of Rs. 50,000 per month. The duration of the award will be three years.

The National Institute of Biomedical Genomics (NIBMG) has been established as an autonomous institution under the aegis of the Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India, in Kalyani, West Bengal. The mission of NIBMG is to conduct and promote cutting edge research, translation and education in Biomedical Genomics for better fulfillment of public health needs.
The Institute is seeking applications for various positions as listed below.

ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR (One position)

JOB DESCRIPTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The applicant for the position of Associate Director should have broad scientific expertise in human genomics and a commitment to genomics-based health care. The Associate Director will assist the Director in establishing scientific programmes, recruiting faculty members and developing scientific collaborations. 
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Essential: The applicant should have a M.D. or a Ph.D. degree with at least 15 years' experience in human genetics research and training, a strong record of peer-reviewed publications in human genetics and genomics, leadership experience and excellent communication skills. Age: Not exceeding 50 years, with 5 years age-limit relaxation for SC/ST/OBC applicants, and 10 years relaxation for physically/mentally challenged applicants.
DESIRABLE: Experience in the conduct and management of complex research projects, scientific staff, training programmes and interdisciplinary collaborations.
SALARY SCALE: Rs. 37400 - 67000 (Grade Pay: Rs. 12000)

Professor : M.D. or Ph.D. degree; 40 or more publications on human genetics; track record of successful extramural funding; 10 years' experience in human genetics teaching; conduct of large research or translational projects; evidence of providing leadership to a research or clinical group; age not exceeding 50 years.
Associate Professor : M.D. or Ph.D. degree; 20 or more publications on human genetics; track record of successful extramural funding; 5 years' experience in human genetics teaching; age not exceeding 45 years.
Assistant Professor : M.D. or Ph.D. degree; at least two-years' post-doctoral experience in human genetics; 5 or more publications on human genetics; age not exceeding 40 years.

(For SC/ST/OBC applicants, age limit will be relaxed by 5 years; for physically/mentally challenged applicants, age limit will be relaxed by 10 years.)

One position JRF / SRF in CSIR project*
PROJECT TITLE: “Studies to decipher the functional implications of nuclear receptors docking onto the mitotic chromatin”.
QUALIFICATIONS:
FOR JRF:
M.Sc. or equivalent degree in Life Sciences or related fields with NET (lecturership). Candidates with BVSc or MBBS are also eligible to apply.
FOR SRF: M.Sc. or equivalent degree in Life Sciences or related fields. At least two years of research experience is essential. MBBS with at least one year research experience or M.V.Sc. or equivalent are also eligible.
