Agricultural Biotechnology
26-28
Sept, 2012INTRODUCTION
Biotechnology
has emerged as a powerful tool in addressing various issues confronting
agriculture today. Biotechnological tools provide powerful avenues for meeting
food and nutritional security as well as development of eco-friendly organic
products to aid and assist in increasing and sustaining crop production.
Considering the richness and variability of biodiversity that exists in the
North-East of India, this region holds good promise to deliver on the
biotechnological solutions. The DBT-AAU centre has been established with a
vision to produce quality human resources in the field of Agricultural
Biotechnology and scientifically exploit the potential bio-resources of the
region to provide gene based solution to the current and upcoming challenges
confronting agricultural production.
OBJECTIVES
As
a part of this endeavour, the Centre is organizing a poster competition during
its 2nd workshop with an aim of encouraging the post graduate students in the
Institutes of the NE Region to take up research in Biotechnology and provide a
platform for showcasing their work. The students will also get an opportunity
to hear international and national experts talking about their research and
other advances in modern Agricultural Biotechnology.
