ICRISAT seeks applications from Indian nationals for a Scientific Officer (Genomical Statistics) to work on a challenging project “Integration of MARS and GWS modules in the ISMU pipeline for facilitating molecular breading for complex traits”  sponsored by CGIAR Generation Challenge Program.  This is a nationally recruited position and will be based at Patancheru, Andhra Pradesh, India.
ICRISAT is a non-profit, apolitical, international organization for science-based agricultural development. Established in 1972, it is a member of the Alliance of Centers of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR), and supported by more than 48 governments, foundations, and development banks. To reduce poverty, enhance crop productivity and food security and to protect the environment, ICRISAT research focuses on farming systems and crop improvement, management and utilization of sorghum, pearl millet, pigeonpea, chickpea, and groundnut in the semi-arid tropics.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
•To develop web based interfaces for Statistical Analysis Pipeline (J2EE / .NET) for marker-assisted recurrent selection (MARS) and genomic selection (GS);
•Designing and implementing databases to store results and data sets;
•Implement Analysis Pipeline on Linux and Windows platforms.
COMPETENCIES:
•Proficiency in developing web based interfaces for Statistical Analysis Pipeline (Level 3);
•Designing and implementing databases (Level 3);
•Proficiency in computer programming both in Linux and Windows environment (Level 3);
•Knowledge of programming in computer languages like  JAVA/C/C++ etc (Level 2);
•Should be a good team player and adaptable to working in multicultural team (Level 2).
REQUIREMENTS:

•Engineering/Master’s degree in Computer Science/Statistics/Agricultural Statistics/ Mathematics with strong background in computer programming both in Linux/Windows environment;
•Demonstrated ability and experience in developing web development;
•Excellent inter-personal skills;
•Knowledge of programming in other computer languages (JAVA/C/C#/C++).

In order to harness the bioactive principles from the vast marine biota occurring in Indian waters for human therapeutic purposes, Ministry of Earth Sciences, Government of India, has been implementing a multidisciplinary and multi-institutional Research and Development programme on “Development of potential drugs from ocean (Short title: Drugs from the Sea)” since, 1991 with participation of several research labs & Universities under the coordination of CSIR-Central Drug Research Institute (CSIR-CDRI), Lucknow.
With a view to strengthen the scope of the program in the next Five Year Plan and draw more fresh talent, a call for research proposals under 'Drugs from the Sea' project is being made under the broad categories listed below. The marine bio-actives (extracts, fractions, isolated compounds and their analogues) will be evaluated for anti-cancer, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory activities at the identified labs.
1. Collection, extraction & taxonomical identification of marine flora, fauna & microbes (including marine symbiotic microbes, marine endophytes etc).
2. Isolation of chemical constituents from marine flora, fauna & microbes and their submission for the bio-evaluation.
Researchers in universities, academic and research institutes in the country are invited to submit detailed project proposals in the prescribed format of MoES. The proposals should highlight prior art and investigator’s track record in performing the proposed activities, viz., collection, full characterization of species, extraction, fractionation, isolation of compounds, etc. The submitted proposals shall undergo peer-review followed by detailed evaluation and presentation before the Steering Committee. Adequate details should be provided in the proposal to facilitate rigorous evaluation. These projects shall be considered for funding by the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) for consumables, justifiable equipments and limited manpower costs initially for a three year period with yearly performance based renewal. Under the direct supervision of the Country Manager (Seed System Specialist/Seed Dissemination & Communication Expert/GIS Specialist) the SADO will coordinate seeds production, distribution, networking, and capacity building of the stakeholders with the help of national partners and ADOs. He/she will be responsible for the conduct of field demonstrations, survey, gathering and analysis of data to produce reports for the project management.
MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
• Develops linkages with national partners (NGOs, GOs, seed growers, dealers and farmers organizations/farmers for organizing varietal demonstrations, seed minikits distribution, seed multiplication, awareness generation, and capacity building activities, and proper documentation of these activities.
• Develops programs for seed multiplication and up scaling
• Organizes field days and training for different stakeholders
• Evaluates training activities provided to the project partners and stakeholders
• Produces monthly, quarterly, and annual M&E reports through analysis of the collected information from the field
• Supervises the agricultural development officers in designated 5 to 6 districts
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
• Masters in Agriculture related fields
• Minimum one year experience of working with research organization/NGO/GO
• Good communication skills for collection of agricultural related qualitative and quantitative information, especially rice and cereal seeds, from different stakeholders
• Demonstrated experience to conduct survey, collection of qualitative and quantitative information, use of monitoring tools, handling of large data set, analysis of agricultural related data and reporting
• Should be able to drive motorcycles and hold a valid driver's license for the same
