PUNJAB ACADEMY OF SCIENCES
The Punjab Academy of Sciences (PAS) came into being at the time of holding of the 83rd session of the Indian Science Congress at Punjabi University, Patiala in 1996. Since then, the academy has arranged fourteen annual congresses. It provides a platform where senior scientists and young researchers in the region meet and interact with each other to share their expertise in different disciplines of Science & Technology. At present this registered body has more than 1000 life members. The academy has conferred its Honorary Fellowship on 73 distinguished scientists from India and abroad who have significantly contributed towards bringing the innovations in Science and Technology. Since 2002, the academy is holding "Children Science Congress" for the students of 10+2 classes in Punjab. The academy is also bringing out an annual journal of research namely "Journal of Punjab Academy of Sciences".
The main aims of the academy are:-
(i) To provide the cause of science in Punjab, with respect to its basic and applied aspects (ii) To encourage original research in general and with reference to Punjab in particular (iii) To create scientific temper and awareness among the masses (iv) To develop interaction among the scientists with particular reference to those of inter-disciplinary branches (v) To work out strategies for sustainable use of our natural resources and maintenance of environment.
CALL FOR ABSTRACTS AND PAPERS
Section A: Agriculture, Biosciences, Biotechnology etc.
Section B: Applied Chemistry, Applied Physics, Sugar Technology, Pharmacy , Food Technology and Textile Chemistry.
Section C : Chemical, Mathematical and Physical Sciences.
Section D: Engineering Sciences
(All Branches including computational sciences)
Section E: Medical and Veterinary Sciences.
The members of the Punjab Academy of Sciences are requested to submit their original contributions for any of the above referred sections. Not more than two papers either alone or with co-authors could be submitted. Two copies of the abstract (maximum 250 words) formatted on MS word (A4 size) in Arial font, letter size 10, in single line spacing with 5 cm right and 3 cm left, top and bottom margins 1.5 cm be submitted before January 10, 2012. The hard copy must be accompanied by soft copy on CD. Abstract should compulsorily be sent through electronic mail to psc15gndu@gmail.com as an attachment in MS word format with above specifications. The name of the presenting author should be marked with an asterisk (*) along with email ID. The decision for oral/poster presentation will be strictly followed as per approval of the technical review committee. Papers screened by the committee may either by published in the seminar proceedings or selected papers may be published in the special issue of Journal of Punjab Academy of Sciences as per norms.
YOUNG SCIENTIST AWARD
A special session for the presentation of papers for the young scientist award will be held on February 8, 2012. Young scientists upto 35 years of age as on December 31, 2011 may send their abstract and full length papers (in triplicate) to the Secretary, Punjab Academy of Sciences, Union Building, Punjabi University, Patiala on or before January 10, 2012. The name of the section pertaining to the paper should be clearly mentioned on the envelope. The papers will be screened as per the norms of the Academy.
· Young scientist award in each category shall carry a medal, certificate and cash prize of Rs. 7500/- (to be given by Punjab Academy of Sciences).
· There will be parallel technical sessions for the paper presentation.
· Seven minutes will be allowed for presentation and three minutes for discussion.
· Young scientists below the age of 35 years (proof of age to be furnished) selected for best presentation will be awarded a certificate of honour, medal and cash prize. Each of them will be given 12 minutes for the presentation and 3 minutes for discussion.
· LCD projectorand facility of power point presentation will be available.
· Each participant for poster session will be provided with a board,measuring 100cm X 70cm, for mounting the display of written material,diagrams, photographs etc.
REGISTRATION FEE FOR THE MEMBERS
Academic / R & D: Rs. 1000/-
Student/Scholar & Retired Academician: Rs. 500/-
Corporate Delegates: Rs. 2000/-
The registration fee be sent by DD drawn in favour of "Organising Secretary, Punjab Science Congress, GNDU" payable at Amritsar. Participants who are not members of the Academy will have to pay an additional membership fee by Demand Draft/Cheques in favour of Punjab Academy of Sciences, Patiala at the following rates:
Category of Membership: Life Rs. 1500/-
Ordinary: Rs. 300/-
ACCOMMODATION AND TRAVEL
Since the academic session will be in progress, only limited can be arranged for participants on the campus. Accommodation can be arranged for the participants in hotels on payment of hotel room rent in advance.
