POST: Scientific Officers – Genebank (2 Positions)

ICRISAT seeks applications from Indian nationals for two positions of Scientific Officer – Genebank, to be based at Patancheru, Andhra Pradesh, India. These are nationally recruited positions.

ICRISAT is a non-profit, apolitical, international organization for science-based agricultural development. Established in 1972, it is an Alliance of centers of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR), and supported by more than 48 governments, foundations, and development banks. To reduce poverty, enhance crop productivity and food security and to protect the environment, ICRISAT research focuses on farming systems and crop improvement, management and utilization of sorghum, pearl millet, pigeonpea, chickpea, and groundnut in the semi-arid tropics. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

•Plan and organize germplasm characterization and evaluation, regeneration of both cultivated and wild species  of pearl millet and pigeonpea;

•Plan field trials, crop management, supervision of field staff, data collection and analysis, documentation;

•Assist the supervisors in conducting research experiments and preparing reports

COMPETENCIES:

•Proficiency in English communication skills (both written and spoken);

•Proficiency in Computer skills (Ms- Office, data analysis);

•Data analysis using statistical packages;

•Should be a good team player and adaptable to working in multicultural team.

REQUIREMENTS:

•M.Sc in Agriculture with Genetic Resources/Genetics and Plant Breeding or Botany.

•3 years of experience. Candidates having experience of crops and genebank related activities preferred

Applications are invited from eligible candidates for 2 [Two] positions of Junior Research Fellow on a temporary contractual basis in the research project entitled "Value added and healthful texturized egg products"funded by Ministry of Food Processing Industries, Government of India, tenable at Department of Meat, Fish & Poultry Technology, CSIR-CFTRI, Mysore.

 ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATION: First Class Post-Graduate Degree in Science with Specilisation in Food Technology/Food Science/ Food Science & Nutrition/Food Processing/Food Chemistry/Microbiology/Biotechnology with good academic records and should have been qualified for lecturership in National Eligibility Test conducted by CSIR-UGC or GATE qualified.

EMOLUMENTS: Rs.12,000/- per month, HRA as per CSIR rules will also be paid,subject to approval by the funding agency.

TERMS & CONDITIONS:

1.Candidates should not have exceeded 28 years of age as on 15-06-2012, i.e. the last date of receipt of applications for the post.

2.The engagement of JRFs are exclusively for the above mentioned project.

3.The engagement will be contractual and on purely temporary basis in the project funded by MFPI, Govt. of India for a maximum period of two years and is co-terminus with the project, if the project terminates earlier.

4.The engagement under externally funded project does not confer any right/ claim whatsoever either explicitly or implicitly on the appointee for regular appointment in CSIR/ CFTRI, against any post or otherwise under any legal conditions or precedent.

QUALIFICATIONS:

FOR SRF: M.Sc. or equivalent degree in Life Sciences or related fields. At least two years of research experience is essential. MBBS with at least one year research experience or M.V.Sc. or equivalent are also eligible.

FOR RA: A doctorate degree or equivalent with relevant publications.

DESIRABLE: Candidates (SRF/RA) who have published original research articles or have suitable work experience in the areas of Molecular & Cellular Endocrinology or having MVSc/MBBS with some research experience may be preferred.

*Only one position is available that will be offered either at SRF or RA level. The position is purely temporary and co-terminus with the project on 31st March, 2013. The appointment may be curtailed on the basis of the performance of the researcher.
