POSTDOCTORAL VACANCY FOR QUANTITATIVE EVALUATION OF METABOLIC PATHWAYS AT NATIONAL INSTITUTE ON ALCOHOL ABUSE AND ALCOHOLISM, BETHESDA, MD

POSTDOCTORAL VACANCY FOR QUANTITATIVE EVALUATION OF METABOLIC PATHWAYS AT NATIONAL INSTITUTE ON ALCOHOL ABUSE AND ALCOHOLISM, BETHESDA, MD AND SURROUNDING AREA
A Postdoctoral position is available in the Laboratory of Metabolic Control (LMC), Division of Intramural Clinical and Biological Research (DICBR), National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), National Institutes of Health (NIH), Rockville, MD, beginning in August 2012. The Laboratory of Metabolic Control defines the phenotype of disease by determining the kinetic and thermodynamic factors involved in the alterations of metabolic pathways and reactions causing simple genetic and multifactorial complex disease states. From this, it defines therapeutic measures which can return the diseased to the normal phenotype. The Postdoctoral position's work will consist of quantitative evaluation of metabolic pathways under different conditions, with special emphasis on changes in glycolytic and Krebs cycle metabolites, as well as biochemical thermodynamic calculations. The effects of ketosis on neurodegenerative and metabolic disorders will be investigated. Experience with mammalian systems, Western blot analysis, PCR and analysis of signaling pathways are desirable.
Requirements:
Candidates must have an M.D. or Ph.D., and less than 5 years postdoctoral experience.
To Apply:
For consideration, please email a CV, bibliography, cover letter with a brief description of research experience and interests, and three letters of reference to: Dr. Richard Veech at rveech@mail.nih.gov .

VACANCY FOR BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING PROFESSIONALS AT CLINICAL CENTER, BETHESDA, MD

VACANCY IN BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING
AT
CLINICAL CENTER, BETHESDA, MD AND SURROUNDING AREA

The Center for Interventional Oncology (CC & NCI) & the Interventional Radiology Research Laboratory in the Radiology & Imaging Sciences Department of the Clinical Center has postdoctoral fellowship openings for qualified candidates interested in multidisciplinary translational research as part of a team of MD's, PhD's, and MD/PhD's in interventional oncology. Our research group focuses on three areas of interest: 1) Novel drug and device combinations, 2) Multi-modality image fusion and technologies for image guided therapies, such as image guided robotics or electromagnetic navigation, and 3) Novel tumor ablation and interventional devices. Targeted minimally invasive therapies using image guidance are essential tools for closing the gap between diagnosis and therapy. Integration of these targeted therapies into the clinic is a main focus of our translational research center.
Some examples of postdoctoral research projects include: 1) Multimodality image fusion (e.g. CT/MRI/X-ray/Ultrasound/PET), device tracking and real-time image processing for tumor biopsy/ablation guidance, 2) Integration of medical robotics into minimally invasive procedures, 3) Development of CT and/or ultrasound thermometry for ablation monitoring, 4), Design, development and validation of novel interventional devices (e.g. removable IVC filters or endovascular devices), and 5) Investigation of novel guidance solutions in clinical trials.
Requirements:
Applicants should hold the PhD, MD or MD/PhD degree. Preferred candidates are those with strong programming skills in Java/C/C++, backgrounds in computer science, electrical engineering or biomedical engineering and an interest in interventional radiology or interventional oncology from a translational science perspective. Experience in device tracking, image processing, and PCB design are desirable.
