Vacant PhD fellowship at Copenhagen Center for Glycomics

A fully funded PhD fellowship is available from February 2012 at the Copenhagen Center for Glycomics (CCG), Faculty of Science, University of Copenhagen.
CCG was established at the Faculty of Health Sciences early in 2008 funded by a Center of Excellence grant from The University of Copenhagen, and will from 2012 continue as a Danish National Research Foundation Center of Excellence. CCG comprises collaborating groups in glycogenetics, glycoenzymology, structural glycoanalytics, glycoarray technologies, glycoimmunology, and glycomedicine. Currently, CCG consists of one professor, five associate professors, four post docs, and eight PhD students. CCG has a common focus on exploring the diverse biology of complex carbohydrates, with an overarching aim of identifying diseases caused by defects in glycosylation and deciphering underlying molecular mechanisms. The program uses a genetic approach (NGS Exome sequencing) to identify functional mutations in glycogenes, and Zinc finger nuclease (ZFN) gene targeting to develop isogenic cell line models for diseases.
 PROFILE OF APPLICANTS:
We seek one or more PhD fellowship students for the following research areas:
ZFN gene targeting in human cell lines (and rodents)
Glycoproteomics using mass spectrometry (nano-LC/ESI-MS/MS approaches)
The candidate must hold a relevant Masters degree (or equivalent). Applicants with strong interests in gene targeting, NGS, and mass spectrometry, and with relevant experimental experience, will be preferred. It is a prerequisite that the applicant and project are approved by the PhD committee of the Faculty.
As the members and collaborators of the Centre are international, the working language of the Centre is English. Thus excellent English speaking, reading and writing skills are required.
The fellowship is to start February 1st, 2012, or soon thereafter.
 TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
The successful PhD candidate will be offered a full-time PhD position for a period of three years, contingent on a satisfactory performance, with the specific intent that it results in a PhD degree and scientific publications. It is a prerequisite for the appointment as a PhD-fellow, that the person concerned can be registered as a PhD fellow according to the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation Executive Order no 18 of 14. January 2008. Information about the PhD programs at the Faculty of Health Science can be found at healthscience.ku.dk/phd/.
Salary and other terms and conditions of appointment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant professional organization.
Further inquiries about the positions can be obtained by contacting: Associate professor Hans H. Wandall (hhw@sund.ku.dk ), Associate professor Steven B. Levery (levery@sund.ku.dk ) or professor Henrik Clausen (hclau@sund.ku.dk )
 HOW TO APPLY:
Applications must be written in English and include (i) a motivation for the application (0.5 A4 page), (ii) curriculum vitae, (iii) list of publications, (iv) a copy of MSc diploma and grade transcript, (v) a short abstract of the MSc thesis or equivalent, and (vi) the names, e-mails, telephone numbers and addresses of 2-4 referees.
Applications will be evaluated by an assessment committee. The applicant will be notified of the composition of the committee. Each applicant will receive the part of the evaluation that concerns her/him. The main criterion for selection will be the research potential of the applicant. In addition, experience with some of the above mentioned methods will be an advantage.
Applications should be sent electronically by using the link below.
Deadline for application is January 25th, 2012 at 12 noon.
The University wishes our staff to reflect the diversity of society and welcomes applications from all qualified candidates regardless
