The U.S. Department of Agriculture has announced the “Norman E. Borlaug International Agricultural Science and Technology Fellowship Program – 2012” open to Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) researchers, policy analysts and scientists.

Prior experience in the research areas of structural or functional brain imaging, of language processing or of developmental neuroscience is desirable. The successful candidate should have a solid background in data and statistical analysis.

The successful candidate is expected to have good problem solving, troubleshooting, and analytical skills. In addition, the candidate should be fluent in English, have good interpersonal and written and oral communication skills, and be able to work independently as well as within an international team. A demonstrated interest in molecular medicine is also advantageous.

Experience in the research areas of language processing or developmental neuroscience is desirable but not required. The candidate should have a solid background in imaging methods, hands-on experience in problems of data and statistical analysis, and interest to co-supervise PhD and Master students. We aim to develop a machine vision based system to detect farrowing in the research project "Sowmonitor – automatic detection of farrowing" funded by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.
The Department of Agricultural Sciences in the Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry of the University of Helsinki invites applications for a DOCTORAL STUDENT  for a fixed term until 31.3.2014. It is possible to apply further funding for successful work.
The most important task of the doctoral student will be to work on the doctoral dissertation. The main aim of the thesis will be to develop a machine vision based system to monitor the behavior of sows and predict the onset of farrowing. The focus is on developing the algorithms for machine vision, but it will also include working with the practical data collection as part of the research group. The work is carried out in an interdisciplinary team with researchers in Agrotechnology, Ethology, and Veterinary Science.  

An appointee to the position shall hold a second-cycle degree and have an approved research proposal. Other requirements shall include the ability and motivation, as demonstrated in previous studies or otherwise, to pursue postgraduate studies and a doctoral degree according to the study plan and research proposal. We appreciate experience in machine vision, programming, and working with animals.
Candidates should have M.Sc. in Agrotechnology, Computer Science, or Engineering. It is an asset to have previous knowledge on machine vision, programming and experience in working with animals. Willingness and skills to work in a multi-disciplinary and extensively networked project are important. Excellent skills in written and spoken English are required.
The salary will be based on levels 1–4 of the demands level chart for teaching and research personnel in the salary system of Finnish universities. In addition, the appointee will be paid a salary component based on personal performance.

Applications are invited for a 3-year postdoctoral training fellowship. The successful applicant will work on collaborative projects between two OXION groups on the role of ion channels and diseases of electrically excitable cells. Applicants, in consultation with the relevant groups, may also suggest alternative cross-disciplinary projects involving two or more OXION groups.
It is expected that the successful applicant will have completed their PhD within the last six years, have a strong publication record (in relation to age since PhD) and have the ability to work both as part of a team and independently. The post will involve the analysis and interpretation of data and initiation of new experiments within the laboratory based on these and published data. A good knowledge of statistics is also necessary. Training in a variety of techniques will be provided if required.
Fluency in English and willingness to assist with some teaching is also necessary. Candidates should also have a first degree of at least 2.1 classification or equivalent and a higher degree in a suitable discipline.

Summer Research Fellowship Programme at IIT Delhi

SUMMER RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP PROGRAMME AT IIT DELHI
IIT Delhi has instituted a prestigious summer research fellowship programme for providing an opportunity to exceptionally good undergraduate students of different engineering institutes in India, other than IIT Delhi (and if possible, abroad) for Top ten of the classes to execute an innovative research and development project under the guidance of an IIT Delhi faculty. The fellow will register at IIT Delhi as a visiting student; she/he will not be required to pay institute registration fees.
ABOUT THE FELLOWSHIP
DURATION: The Fellowship work can be done in a period of 8-12 weeks which can be availed of during at the most two visits.
Support The fellowship will cover the following:
(a) cost of travel in the country, to and from IIT Delhi;
(b) stay at IIT Delhi during the visit(s), including boarding and lodging in the Institute hostels; and
(c) a fellowship of Rs. 500/- per week.
The fellow will have to pay the insurance charges.
ELIGIBILITY: Any undergraduate student, who has completed at least 2 years of study towards an engineering degree and is amongst top ten positions in her/his respective programme will be eligible to apply for this fellowship. Students who will be completing this requirement by May 2012 are also eligible.

The candidate should be CSIR/UGC-NET with 1st division M.Sc. in Toxicology/Biochemistry/Biotechnology. The Ph.D. should be of high quality evidenced by published work. Required to teach carcinogenesis and Teratogenesis and special issues of toxicology alongwith foundation course.
 GENERAL INFORMATION
1.      The university reserves the right not to fill-up the vacancy if the circumstances so warrant and to call only short-listed candidates for test/ interview.
