ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR: For appointment as Associate Professor, one should have a Ph.D with first class or equivalent (in terms of Grades etc.) at the preceding degree in the appropriate branch with a very good academic record throughout and a minimum of eight years teaching / research / industrial experience of which at least three years should be at the level of Assistant Professors or equivalent.
PROFESSOR: Ph.D with first class or equivalent (in terms of Grades etc.) at the preceding degree in the appropriate branch with a very good academic record and a minimum of ten years experience of which at least five years should be at the level of Associate Professor/ Assistant Professor.
Track record of high quality research is a prerequisite and should be evident from the research publications.

INVITATION FOR SUBMISSION OF FILLED-IN APPLICATION FORMS
The Research Unit of the University invites application forms for Ph.D programmes on the prescribed formats. Programmes offered by the University for Jan, 2012 are placed below. For detailed information candidates may visit the IGNOU website (www.ignou.ac.in) and download full Prospectus and Application Form on Research Degree Programmes.
1)      Last Date for submission of filled-in application form to the Research Unit of the University  :  
(i)  21st October, 2011      for all programmes where there is an Entrance Test
(ii) 15th November              for all programmes where there is no Entrance Test
2)      Entrance Test for all eligible candidates will be held on 20th November, 2011. Entrance Test will be held at IGNOU HQs, New Delhi only. Candidates who have qualified UGC NET, GATE of IIT, JEST of DAE etc recognized by the IGNOU will be exempted from the Entrance Test of the University. However, all such candidates will have to face an interview to be conducted by the faculty of the research discipline of the University.
3)      Faculty of the Research Discipline concerned may even invite eligible applicants of “Category A” for Entrance Test if faculty desires so for various academic reasons.
4)      Dates for Interviews/ Presentations for Admission/Registration will be decided by the Faculty of the Discipline and the same will be communicated through email/ letter. Please furnish email ids and contact telephone/mobile numbers.
5)      The University offers Research Degree Programmes for Category A and Category B candidates subject to such Research Programmes are on offer for such Categories. Details are provided on each Research Discipline in the Prospectus.
Category A:     Candidates having M.Phil or 5 years’ relevant teaching/ professional experience, who can directly undertake thesis work for Ph.D. (Candidates under Category A could also be given coursework subject to recommendations of the  Doctoral Committee of the Research Discipline).
Category B :   Candidates who have to undergo basic Course Work before or alongside undertaking thesis work. (Candidates who qualify UGC NET, GATE of IIT, JEST of DAE etc will be considered under Category B)
Note: Candidates with Post graduate degree or other equivalent degrees recognized by the UGC are eligible with the eligibility criteria specified for each research discipline in the prospectus. For details of specific eligibility criteria discipline-wise, candidates are required to see information given under each discipline on the eligibility criteria, selection procedure, etc in the prospectus placed on the website.
6)      Prospective candidates can download the soft copy of the Prospectus & submit filled-in  format  along with a Demand Draft of  Rs 750/- ( Only in favour of IGNOU payable at New Delhi) to the Director, Research Unit, IGNOU, New Delhi -110068.
7)      Candidates should not submit any filled-in application if programmes are not under offer for Jan 2012. If any application is received for such programmes, applications will be rejected without any intimation. No correspondence will be made in such cases.
8)      Please remember, it is the responsibility of the candidate to submit filled-in form for the research discipline under the specified category for which he/she is eligible. Salim Ali National Wildlife Fellowship- 2011 announcement(Last date approaching)

Invites nominations for
‘Salim Ali National Wildlife Fellowship- 2011’
The Govt. of India, Ministry of Environment and Forests has decided to award the fellowship alternatively each year. Dr. Salim Ali National Wildlife Fellowship Award, 2011 for,  Research/experimental project on avian wildlife is due for award.
The fellowship will be awarded normally for a period of two years at the rate of Rs.
4000/-per month. In addition, an amount of Rs.18,000/- per annum will be paid for meeting the contingent expenditure. Only Indian citizens engaged in wildlife management/research are eligible. Preference would be given to the officials of the State/UT Forest and Wildlife Department.

The nominations forwarded by the following authorities will be considered:

1. Principal Chief Conservator of Forests/CCF (WL)/Chief Wildlife Warden of all States/Union Territories.
2. Presidents of approved scientific societies.
3. Vice Chancellors of Universities.
4. Heads and Deans of Faculties of institutions like the Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun, Salim Ali Centre for Ornithology and Natural History, Coimbatore, etc.
