ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE : MBBS degree recognized by MCI or First class Master’s degree in Genetics/Life science from a recognized University or 2nd class M.Sc. in Genetics/Life Sciences with Ph.D. degree from a recognized University or equivalent.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS :-
1. M.D. or Ph..D. degree in related subject from a recognized university.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
To conduct independent laboratory and field research studies in relevant field and to participate in multi disciplinary studies on genetic disorders prevalent amongst tribal populations (monogenic and polygenetic disorders). Central India occupies the largest and most diverse ethnic populations living in the natural environment. There are over 45 different tribal groups and 7 primitive tribal groups (PTGs) in Madhya Pradesh and Chhatisgarh and the later group is stated to be dwindling. Haemoglobinopathies in the form of sickle cell diseases beta thalassemia and alpha thalassemia are very common in the tribal predominant area of central India. In some tribal populations the sickle haemoglobinopathies is very high (Upto 30%), and cause a public health problem. Along with these haemoglogin disorders other RBC related genetic disorders like G6PD deficiency is also very common in central India. Looking at the gravity of the situation caused by various single genetic disorders Council has identified haemoglobinopathies as one of the thrust areas of research of this Centre.
AGE LIMIT: Not exceeding 35 years. Relaxable up to 5 years for Government servants and SC/ST/OBC candidates in accordance with the instructions issued by the Department of Personnel & Training from time to time in this regard.
One time age relaxation is also allowed to Scientific and Technical staff working in long term projects in ICMR Institutes/Centres for posts advertised under HRSC, 2007 provided they meet essential qualifications and experience for the post with a view to provide them opportunity to compete with other candidates as per Council's letter No, 6/1/2007-Admn.II, dated, 28.03.2011.
GENERAL RELAXATION CLAUSE: Age, qualification and experience will be relaxable in deserving cases as mentioned in the Recruitment Rules of Health Research Scientists cadre of ICMR, 2007 under Rule 14 and Notes 1&2 of Annexure-III.
OTHER SERVICE CONDITIONS:
(1) PAY BAND-3 RS.15600-39100 PLUS GRADE PAY RS.5400/-.
(2) Allowances as per Central Government Rules are admissible on the above pay Scale.
(3) Benefits of new restructured defined contributory Pension system are admissible as per the provision contained in the Ministry of Finance, Department of Economic Affairs (ECD & PR Division), Notification No.5/7/2003-ECD & PR dated 22.12.2003 effective from 1.1.2004.
(4) Private practice is not allowed. However, non-practicing allowance is admissible to medical graduates only as per rules.

Junior Research Fellow (JRF)
National Agri-Food Biotechnology Institute (NABI), Mohali, is an autonomous R&D Institute under Department of Biotechnology, Government of India. The institute carries out cutting edge research at the interface of agricultural biotechnology, bioinformatics, biostatistics, food processing, postharvest technology, and nutritional sciences. Major research programs aim at i) understanding the interactions among proteins, carbohydrates, lipids, accumulation of micronutrients, enhancing bioavailability, health functions and processing quality of foods, ii) crop improvement through molecular breeding and transgenic approaches, iii) quality and postharvest stability of farm produce, and iv) the development of novel food products with health potentials and molecular nutrition. NABI has the state of art facilities in the area of genomics (ABI 3730xl, RT-PCR, DNA analyzer, Affymetrix Microarray system, bioanalyzer, liquid handling system, automated DNA extraction system, LCM, Mass-Array (sequenom), etc), proteomics (MALDI-TOF-TOF, Q-TOF, nano-LC, HPLC, GCMS-MS, HP-TLC, UPLC, etc.), high performance computing facility, and food science (NIR, FTIR, SEM, etc.). To accelerate high quality research, applications are invited from the motivated candidates with high level of creativity, innovative research ideas and communication skills and drive for carrying out research aiming at:
1. Epigenetics and Gene regulation
2. Bioinformatics: Data mining in crops genomes and transcriptome
3. Role of dietary constituents and receptors on adipogenesis
4. Molecular basis of seed development
5. Nano-bioscience approaches dealing with bioavailability of micronutrients
6. And Quality and postharvest stability of fresh produce
The JRF should mention their respective research interest of choice from the above areas by briefly describing their plan of work. The JRF will be hired as per the emoluments’ guidelines and service conditions notified by DST (A.20020/11/97-IFD dated 31st March, 2010) varying from Rs12,000/- to Rs18,000/- per month plus HRA.
NABI may or may not select candidates against one or more of the above areas of research, depending upon the suitability of the candidate to carry out high quality research.

PhD studentship for JRFs
Translational Health Science and Technology Institute (THSTI) is a part of the interdisciplinary Biotech Science Cluster coming up at Faridabad in the National Capital Region (NCR). The interim laboratories of the Institute are located at Gurgaon in the NCR. THSTI is designed to be a dynamic and interactive organization with a mission to conduct innovative translational research and develop research collaborations across disciplines and professions to accelerate the development of concepts into tangible products to improve human health.
THSTI invites application for its Ph.D. program to conduct research in broad interdisciplinary areas such as: (a) Infectious diseases of viruses, (b) Tuberculosis, (c) Micronutrients and host immune response in pediatric diseases, (d) Biology of specific pediatric diseases, (e) Auto-immune diseases, infection and inflammation, Antibody Engineering for diagnostics and therapeutics, Medical devices, implants (f) Vaccine and anti-microbial development. ELIGIBILITY: Candidate must hold an MBBS, or Master’s degree in life sciences, agriculture, veterinary science, engineering, or pharmacy. Only candidates holding a Junior Research fellowship (JRF) from CSIR-UGC, DBT or ICMR are eligible to apply. Candidates must have first division/class with at least 60% aggregate scores in all examinations from class 10 onwards. All educational and technical qualifications should be from a recognized university/board.

SELECTION PROCEDURE: Candidates will be competitively short-listed based on the excellence of their academic records and the list of short-listed candidates will be published on THSTI website by 4th June 2012. Short-listed candidates will be called for an interview on 25th June, 2012. List of selected candidates for the PhD studentship will be published on THSTI website by 28th June, 2012. Selected candidates will be required to join the Ph.D. program of the institute on 10th July, 2012. Hostel facility is available for the institute.
