THE PROGRAMME
Dr Manmohan Singh, the Prime Minister of India, is a graduate and Honorary Fellow of St John’s College. He is widely acknowledged as the architect of the economic reforms that have helped propel India onto the World Stage. In honour of Dr Singh St John’s College, the University of Cambridge launched the Dr Manmohan Singh Scholarships in Delhi in 2007. These awards will enable academically outstanding Indian students to come to St. John’s College, University of Cambridge to study for doctoral degrees in subjects like Science & Technology, Economics and Social Sciences.
ELIGIBILTY CRITERIA
The applicant should be:
* An Indian national with a valid Indian passport and currently based in India
* Below 35 years of age as on 31 December 2011
* Not already had significant exposure to UK education or received UK government funding.
* Should hold a Master’s (postgraduate) degree from a reputed/recognised India university/institution with a First Class award (UG and PG) in the relevant subject/field
* Evidence of leadership qualities (to be assessed from personal statements e.g. extracurricular activities and/or evidence of having made a difference to the country/society/participation in symposia in the relevant subject, or peer reviewed publication in the area.)
* Keen to pursue and should have identified a full time Doctoral Research degree from the University of Cambridge commencing by September/October 2012

SELECTION
Candidates for these scholarships are selected through a process of short listing from the applications received by the British Council, followed by personal interviews, which will be held in New Delhi .
Subsequent to the interviews the selection committee identifies the required number of candidates for the awards. The decision of the selection committee will be final. Selection results will be communicated within a month following the interview.
POST SELECTION
Pre-departure briefings, UK visa and travel arrangements for the selected candidates will be co-ordinated by the British Council.

4.  VALUE OF SCHOLARSHIP:
 Terms  and conditions of the scholarship will change every year according to the yearly budget.
The scholarship could be partial, or in rare cases full. Partial scholarship will include health insurance and tuition fees OR
 Monthly allowance for one academic year (8 months only). Full scholarship will include tuition fees, a monthly allowance and health insurance.
Accommodation, transportation and travel arrangements to and from Israel are the applicant's responsibility.
Scholarships will be granted only in universities and programs approved by the Israel Government and this Ministry.

Research Associate Vacancies(Tomato Functional Genomics) at University of Hyderabad

Research Positions in Tomato Functional Genomics and Metabolomics
At University of Hyderabad, we are having a vibrant group on Tomato Functional Genomics, which is working on TILLING (Targeting Induced Local Lesions IN Genomes), Insertional Mutagenesis, proteomics and fruit ripening in tomato. Some of the current aims of the group include using reverse genetics to isolate tomato mutants delayed in ripening, having high lycopene and folate content in tomato fruits and analysis of light and hormonal signal transduction pathways. For recent publications of the group see (Plant Physiol 156: 1424-1438; Molecular Plant 3: 854-869; Plant Methods 6: 3; Plant Methods 5:18; Plant Signaling and Behavior 5:11.).
Currently we have research associate positions available under “Tomato Metabolome Network” (ToMaNet) funded by Dept of Biotechnology under following projects entitled “Biofortification of tomato by targeted manipulation of the biosynthetic pathways under supervision of Prof. R.P. Sharma, and “Interaction between Proteome and Metabolome Networks during Tomato Fruit Ripening” under supervision of Dr. Y Sreelakshmi at Dept of Plant Sciences, School of Life Sciences, University of Hyderabad.
The research associate would be offered fellowships of Rs 24,000/- pm + HRA. The qualifications for the Research Associate Positions are as follows:
RESEARCH ASSOCIATE I: Applicants should have experience in plant functional genomics, RNAi/VIGS, Next Gen Sequencing preferably in tomato or other crop plants and should be supported by publications. PhD in molecular biology is required.
RESEARCH ASSOCIATE II: Applicants should have experience in identifying natural plant products using NMR and/or Mass spectrometry and should be supported by publications.
PhD in Chemistry of Natural Products is required.
RESEARCH ASSOCIATE III: Applicants should have experience in bioinformatics for handling genome sequencing/proteome/metabolite analyses and should be supported by publications. PhD in Bioinformatics is required.
