RCB-Young Investigator Awards
The Regional Centre for Biotechnology (RCB) is a newly established institution of education, training & research in the National Capital Region (NCR) of Delhi by the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India under an agreement with UNESCO.


RCB-Young Investigator Awards are designed to identify and nurture outstanding young scientists with innovative ideas and desirous of pursuing research in frontier areas of biotechnology related (but not limited) to structural, systems and synthetic biology, nano science & technology, cellular and molecular biology, disease biology, and data-intensive discovery research, under the mentorship of senior faculty at the Regional Centre for Biotechnology.

AGE LIMIT: Young scientists (below the age of 35) having PhD degree (or likely to complete in next 3 months) in any discipline of natural sciences are eligible to apply.

DURATION: The award shall be initially for the duration of three years, subject to annual review. It may be further extended for additional two years, based on a review by a committee of experts.

STIPEND: The award carries a consolidated stipend of Rs. 40,000/-per month. The awardee shall not be entitled to draw any other fellowship or salary.

ABOUT THE CENTRE
The Centre has four departments – the Department of Theoretical Sciences (QFT, Classical and Q Gravity, Black Holes, Equilibrium and Non-equilibrium Statistical Physics, Mathematical Physics),  Department of Material Sciences (Experimental Material Science and Computation Material Science, Theoretical Condensed Matter Physics, Nanoscience), Department of Chemical, Biological and Macromolecular Sciences (Physical Chemistry, Biophysics, Chemical Physics, Spectroscopy, Mesoscopic Physics, Environment Chemistry), Department of Astrophysics and Cosmology  Astrophysical Black Hole, Astrochemistry, Cosmology, Ionospheric Physics). In addition, it has two research units, UNAST and AMRU.

ABOUT THE CANDIDATES
The Centre is looking for persons possessing Doctorate (PhD degree)(including those who recently submitted thesis or are about to submit thesis in next 3 months) for appointment as a PDRA in the Centre. In case a candidate who has submitted thesis is selected for PDRA, the evidence of Ph. D. degree obtained has to be submitted to the Centre within one year of joining.

The applicant prior to PhD should have a first class, in B.Sc. and M. Sc or equivalent examinations.

An applicant who has a recent PhD/submitted/about to submit thesis, must have at least three (3) publications in refereed journal of impact factor preferably greater than one (1) when the application is made.

For candidates who are having post doctoral experience, the minimum number of publication should be five (5) in refereed journal of impact factor preferably greater than one (1). The selected candidates will be strongly engaged to work independently. However, a member of the faculty will act as a mentor.

AGE LIMIT
The upper age limit for award of PDRA shall be 35 years. The upper age limit is relaxable upto 5 years in the case of applicants belonging to scheduled caste/tribes, women,  physically handicapped and OBC candidates.

HOW TO APPLY
Applications in plain paper with complete CV supported by all relevant documents pertaining to academic qualifications, a short statement of research interest and at
least two (2) letters of reference can be sent by the applicant at postdocapply@bose.res.in. For applicants who are having post-doctoral experience should give names of at least three (3) references one of whom should be thesis supervisor and the other the supervisor of the first assignment.

The soft-copy should be followed by a hard copy.

SELECTION PROCEDURE


The screening of applications for PDRA will be done twice a year in January and July. The selection would be through assessment of academic achievements of the candidate  and by interview by a Selection Committees constituted for the purpose.
 Second class AC rail fare is admissible to those applicants who are called for interview. The validity of the offer of award shall be six months from the date mentioned in the award letter. The  recommendation of the Selection Committee as approved by the Director will be final.

EMOLUMENTS
The emoluments for PDRAs will be as per norms of the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India in the category of Research Associate -I, Research
Associate –II and Research Associate-III and HRA as per Government of India rules
as per table below:

All fresh PhD's or those who have submitted will be placed as Research Associate -I. PDRA will be entitled to a contingency grant which will be fixed year to year basis. The contingency grant will be used for research purpose and research related domestic
travel.

TENURE
Associateship will be tenable initially for a period of one year. It may be extended further for a period of one year based on satisfactory progress as assessed by a Committee.

General president of Indian Science Congress Association, Kolkata, has announced a theme on "Science and technology for inclusive innovation" for the SCIENCECOMMUNICATOR competition of 99th Indian Science Congress to be held at KIIT University, Bhuvaneshwar in January 3-7,2012.


Competition will be carried out in two categories, i.e. 1. Oral presentation and 2. Poster presentations on the theme mentioned above. The very basic motto of the competition is to convey the new innovations in any scientific field to a common person of the country considering its utility to society and importance at national and international level. In other words, it should be fit in lab to land technology transfer phenomenon.

Student will have born the expenditure incurred on preparation of presentations.
For poster presentation, only space will be provided by the host. Every competitor will have to pay will Rs. 50 as registration fee.
For every candidate 30 minutes will be given for presentation and soft copy of the presentation will have to deposit a day earlier to the under signed person to avoid any complications during presentation. The candidates who compete through poster presentation, have to paste their poster on provided hard board a day earlier and have to deposit their presentations in soft copy to the undersigned person.

Interested Science students may apply for this competition through their Head of the department on enclosed application form on or before 15th September, 2011. The competition will be held on 20th September, 2011 in the auditorium of Department of Zoology at 2.00pm.
