Post doc(Computational RNA systems biology) at University of copenhagen

Department of Basic Animal and Veterinary Sciences,
University of Copenhagen
POSITION:
Center for non-coding RNA in Technology and Health (RTH) at Department of Basic Animal and Veterinary Sciences, University of Copenhagen invites applications for a position as post doc for 2 years and 3 months (with a potential extension for additional 3 months) from March 1st, 2012, or as soon as possible thereafter.
The position is financed primarily by the Danish Independent Research Council (Technology and Production), but also by the Danish Strategic Research Council (Strategic Growth Technologies).
Center for non-coding RNA in Technology and Health (RTH) was established in 2010 to take a multi-disciplinary research strategy in the area of non-coding RNAs. Non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) are important cellular components and the mammalian genome holds plenty of room to harbour them. In concordance both experimental and computational methods predict up to hundreds of thousands (structured) ncRNAs.

 JOB DESCRIPTION
The outset of the post doc project is to correlate the ncRNA candidates to protein coding genes through RNA-RNA and RNA-protein interactions and possible co-expression patterns. This will be applied in the context of gene interactions (STITCH) based on information from multiple sources. Furthermore, literature mining can be included as an additional layer of seeking information about the ncRNA candidates.
The project will be in collaboration with Lars Juhl Jensen at the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Protein Research, University of Copenhagen.
The post may include teaching to a limited extent.
 QUALIFICATIONS - SELECTION CRITERIA
The successful candidate should have qualifications within the following areas:
Hold a PhD degree (or equivalent).
Documented contributions in at least one of the areas: Bioinformatics or Systems Biology.
Proven skills in applying statistics in data analysis
Perl
One of: C, C++ or Java
General knowledge about methods applied in biological sequence analysis
The following qualifications would be useful, but are not a requirement:
Experience with non-parametric statistical tests and/or stochastic simulation
Knowledge about algorithms in RNA bioinformatics, such as folding, search for structured RNAs, RNA-RNA and RNA protein interactions
The post doc is also required to be enterprising and to possess good interpersonal skills.
 TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
The post will be filled according to the Agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The post is covered by the Protocol on Job Structure.
Applications will be assessed according to the Ministry of Science Technology and Innovation Executive Order no 284 of 25. April 2008. Read more about the recruitment process at LIFE here.
The University of Copenhagen welcomes applications from suitably qualified candidates regardless of age, gender, race, religion or ethnic background.
