NADP Scheme on
“ESTABLISHMENT OF STATE LEVEL FOOD PROCESSING TRAINING CENTRE”
Training Calendar
India has vast food production potential and stands 1st in Milk, Cereals production and Livestock population, 2nd in Fruits and Vegetables and among top 5 in Fish, Rice, Wheat, Groundnuts, Tea, Coffee, Tobacco, Spices, Sugar and Oilseeds. Despite being a major food producer, India's share in world food trade is less than 2 per cent. At present, just 6% of the food-items produced in the country are processed in contrast to the developed nations 60% to 80%. It is now widely recognized that Indian food processing industry is 'sunrise industry' having huge potential for uplifting agricultural economy by adding value to animal and agricultural products and creating employment opportunities. Skill development among  aspiring entrepreneurs, trained man power for food business units and business incubation facility for small scale food producers are needed to consolidate our position in the global food business. To cater the above needs College of Food and Dairy Technology, Koduvalli, Chennai is establishing “A State Level Food Processing Training Centre (FPTC)” under National Agriculture Development Programme. The established FPTC will act as food business incubation centre. Four different training modules were designed as detailed below.
