Course: One year PG diploma in Food Quality and Safety
Department of Studies in Microbiology, University of Mysore, Manasagangotri, Mysore invites Applications from eligible candidates for One Year Post Graduation diploma in Food Quality and Safety for the year 2012-13.
AIMS AND SCOPE: This programme is designed to develop a practical “hands on training” in food safety and quality. The programme incorporates the specialized knowledge and skills required to implement the fundamental principles of ‘Quality Assurance.’ Schedules will be provided with knowledge required to either enter into or progress within the food industry. This programme is equally beneficial to those who wants complement their pre-existing skills and knowledge by upgrading. The course can develop the knowledge and practical skills that are associated with key topics of food science through studying core areas in food chemistry, food microbiology, food analysis, processing and management of food quality and safety.
ELIGIBILITY: Candidates from India and abroad who have completed Masters Degree in Botany/ Applied Botany/ Biotechnology/ Microbiology/ Biochemistry/ Plant Science/ Agriculture/ Sericulture/ Food and Nutrition/ Bioscience/ Life Science with at least 45% marks are eligible to apply.
The selection is based on merit.
SEAT AVAILABILITY : The intake for course shall be twenty for the first academic year. Ten seats are for Mysore University students and remaining ten seats are for other Universities and Foreign National Students as approved by UGC.

1.      Head, Plant Physiology and Breeding Department (Scientist F): Ph.D. in Plant Physiology/ Breeding/Taxonomy with minimum 15 years experience in plant research preferably in tea and other plantation crop/horticulture/forestry, out of which at least five years in senior supervisory position. Job responsibilities: To lead a research team in Tea Physiology and Breeding Department and to motivate and guide highly qualified research group.

The incumbent should be highly conversant with laboratory protocols and analytical techniques for detecting chemical/pesticide residue in food product/beverage/plant parts as well as the use of advanced analytical instruments. Should be able to make theoretical analysis of detected limits against minimum residue limits and conversant with food safety standards. Minimum of five years of post Ph.D. experience in a similar capacity and published work in high impact factor journals demonstrating exceptional research abilities are desirable.
3. Soil Scientist: Ph.D. with 1st Class Master’s degree in Soil Science/Soil Physics with minimum of five years of post Ph.D. experience in a similar capacity and published work in high impact factor journals demonstrating exceptional research abilities are desirable.
4. Water Technologist: 1st Class M.E. or M.Tech. degree with specialization in Water Technology/ Irrigation/Drainage with minimum 5 years experience in related field and published work in high impact factor journals demonstrating exceptional research abilities are desirable.
5. Asstt Residue Analyst: Ph.D. with 1st Class Master’s degree in Chemistry with minimum 5 years experience in pesticide residue analysis and published work in high impact factor journals demonstrating exceptional research abilities are desirable.

Essential Qualification:
S. Ramaseshan Fellowships/Internships: Candidates must possess a basic degree in any branch of science. Candidates with postgraduate (after B.Sc.) degree in literature, journalism or mass communication can also apply for the fellowship or internship. Fellowships will be awarded to a limited
number of exceptionally motivated candidates for a period of one year, extendable for a further period
of one year. The internships will be awarded initially for a period of 6 months, extendable for a further
period depending on performance.

1. For all the above posts candidates should not have completed the age of 35 years. Age limits shall
be reckoned as on the closing date of receipt of applications.
2. No TA/DA will be paid for attending the interview.
3. Depending on the qualifications, experience and recommendations of the Selection Committee, the
selected candidates may be placed in a scale and designation lower than the grade advertised/
applied (in the same group).
4. All these positions are purely temporary and are initially for a period of one year. They could be
extended/terminated depending on the continuation of the project(s).
5. Reservation for SC/ST/OBC/Physically Handicapped/Ex-service person applicants will be as per
Govt of India rules.
6. Mere fulfilling the minimum qualifications will not entitle the candidate for being called for interview.
The applications will be screened by a Committee and candidates found suitable will be called for
interview. The decision of the Director, CDFD will be final in this respect and no correspondence
will be entertained in this regard.
7. Any of the selected individuals may from time to time be assigned to perform any other duties commensurate with their qualifications, by the Director, CDFD.
8. The Director, CDFD reserves the right to suitably change/relax any of the above conditions. He
also reserves the right to accept or reject any application without assigning any reason.

Examination fee
The candidates applying for the position of Project Assistant/Project – Junior Research Fellow are
requested to pay an examination fee of Rs 200 (Rupees two hundred only) by way of Demand Draft/
IPO drawn in favour of ‘The Director, CDFD’ payable at Hyderabad.
Exemption from fee
(1) No fee for SC, ST, physically challenged and women candidates
(2) No fee for the candidates applied for the position of Project Associate/Research Associate.
No fee exemption is, however, available to OBC candidates.
The printout of the completed application form along with the certificate in support of date of birth,
educational qualifications, caste and NET fellowship, etc. and fee of Rs 200 (Rupees two hundred
only) by way of Demand Draft/IPO drawn in favour of ‘The Director, CDFD’ payable at Hyderabad
should be sent to ‘The Head – Administration, Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics

Caste certificate in case of SC/ST and Disability certificate in case of Physically Challenged candidate
issued by the Competent Authority should be enclosed with an application.
All the candidates including those who are exempted from payment of fee, whether applying online or
otherwise should also send the printout of the application.
The online facility of application will open on 21 June 2012 and will be closed on 20 July 2012.
The last date for receipt of the printout of the applications is 23 July 2012 and applications received
after 23 July 2012 will be rejected.
Applications without the requisite fee, caste/disability certificate (if applicable) or received after the last
date are liable to be rejected.
The names of short-listed candidates will be displayed on our website and only the short-listed
candidates will be called for LAN based examination/interview. The individual Admit Card/Hall Ticket
with details of username, password, venue of the examination and time will be sent through e-mail. No
individual intimation letter would be sent.
