The registration fee shall include the entitlement to attend all Scientific Sessions, Breakfast, Tea/Coffee, Lunch, Dinner, and Local transport. All payments should be sent in the form of a Demand Draft drawn in favor of "KSBT Conference" payable at Bhubaneswar, latest by 31st Jan, 2012. SUBMISSION OF ABSTRACTS
Abstracts of original research are invited for oral or poster presentation. The abstracts, prepared in MS-WORD (maximum 300 words) meeting the specifications mentioned below, should be submitted by email latest by 31st January 2012 to Dr. Birendranath Banerjee, Organizing Secretary 37th EMSI , email id: emsiconference2012@gmail.com
 Not more than one abstract can be submitted by one presenting author.
The text should be typed in Arial font (size 11) in the following sequence: paper title (in bold letters), author(s) name(s) (with presenting author underlined), author(s) affiliation(s), email id of corresponding author, body text, and 4 keywords. The abstract should be single-spaced with margins of 1" on all sides of the A4 sheet. A figure or a table can also be included, if absolutely required. No more than 3 references can be included.
The mode of presentation (oral or poster) should be clearly indicated. However, the Scientific Committee reserves the final right to admit the paper for oral or poster session. Authors will be notified about the status of their submission by 10th February 2012. Also indicate the technical session under which the abstract should be considered.
GUIDELINES FOR ORAL /PODIUM PRESENTATION: Oral presentation shall be of 8 minutes duration followed by 2 minutes of discussion.
Guidelines for Poster Presentation: The poster size should be 1 m x 1.2 m. The title of the poster should cover the full width of the poster. The text should be easily legible from a distance of 2 meters, and the concept should be vivid and understandable without any oral explanation. Best presentations (Oral/Poster) would be suitably awarded.
ACCOMMODATION
Limited accommodation is available on the campus in hostels, faculty house and guest house at subsidized rates on a first come first serve basis.

OBJECTIVES
·         Deliberate on recent findings indicating an increased geographical extent of geogenic contaminants
·         Discuss possible health impacts of geogenic contaminants and identify stress parameters
·         Devise strategy for implementing approaches such as Quantitative Chemical Risk Assessment (QCRA) and health based targets
·         Identify technological interventions to minimise geogenic contaminants
·         Study feasibility of implementing interventions and possible bottlenecks in various socio-political settings
·         Evaluate approaches such as nutrient supplementation for integrated mitigation
·         Share experience for integrated mitigation
CONTENT OF THE WORKSHOP
Ø  Speciation and controls on the mobility in groundwater and soils
Ø  Case studies on QCRA and health based targets
Ø  Monitoring tools for geogenic contaminants and mapping by using GIS-based tools to estimate extent of contamination on a regional and national scale.
Ø  Technological interventions to minimise geogenic contaminants
Ø  Creation of technology bank and success stories for common use and implementation
Ø  Developing business models for technological interventions
Ø  Review importance of community participation in planning and implementing interventions
Ø  Operation and maintenance of technological interventions
EXPECTED PARTICIPATION
The invitees for the workshop will be from geogenic contaminated region particularly from developing countries. This workshop will assist in cross-learning on mitigation measures to minimise health impacts of geogenic contamination. In addition, experiences on hydrogeological processes responsible of contamination will also be discussed. An abstract (250 words) highlighting type of geogenic contaminants, geographical extent and mapping and mitigation measures etc. should be submitted to the Organising Secretary before November 30, 2011 which can be further developed to a Country paper on acceptance of abstract. Presentation of 10 minutes duration on country paper will be made by the participants. In addition, there will be invited presentations by the experts in the workshop which will help participants to design and implement mitigation measures in the respective region/countries. There is no registration fee for attending the workshop. Accommodation, if required, will be arranged on first-cum-first basis. The participants are therefore requested to send their confirmation at the earliest. The International Workshop on Mitigating Effects of Geogenic Contaminants will be held at National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (CSIR-NEERI), Nehru Marg, Nagpur – 440 020, INDIA during January 17-20, 2012.
