Walk-in interview for Research Associate & Project Biologist at Wildlife Institute of India

Walk-in -Interview
The Wildlife Institute of India (WII) is a premier national autonomous Institute of the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoE&F), Government of India in the field of teaching, training and research. The Institute wishes to engage one Research Associate (RA-I) and a Project Biologist (Indian national only) through a walk-in-interview to be held on Monday, 6th February 2012. The details of the available position along with essential and desirable qualifications, terms and conditions and how to apply are given below:
TITLE:  Wildlife Forensic Cell.
POST: RA(01)
DURATION: One year.
 ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATION
 Candidate should possess a Ph.D. Degree in Animal Genetics/Molecular Biology with background of M.Sc. in Biotechnology/Molecular Ecology/Animal Genetics/M.V.Sc. in Animal Genetics with minimum of 60% aggregate marks from a recognized University.
 DESIRABLE QUALIFICATION
 1. Work experience in electrophoresis and molecular genetics using PCR based techniques, PCR-RFLP and DNA sequencing/developing species specific characteristics.
2. Good knowledge in biostatistics and multivariate techniques for use in DNA and animal genetics.
3. Any other academic qualification related to work.
 DESCRIPTION OF WORK
 1. R.A. is required to work under supervision of Nodal Officer, Wildlife Forensic Cell for developing DNA based techniques and protocols for dealing wildlife offence cases.
2. To prepare protocols for identifying species from biological materials seized under wildlife offences.
3. Establish liaison with national and international forensic laboratories
4. To provide scientific input and assistance in organizing workshop by WII and other organizations.
5. To maintain proper record and files of all wildlife forensic cases.
6. To prepare annual requirement of equipment, glass wares, chemicals, plastic wares and maintain proper stock entries of these, and
7. To collect reference samples, and other work assigned by Nodal Officer.
 TITLE: Study of bird species numbers and densities in the east and west Himalayas - (Sperm morphology component).
2. POST: Project Biologist (1)
DURATION: Four months (February to May 2012).
 ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATION
 M.Sc. (Botany/Zoology/Forestry/Life Science/Experimental Biology/Environmental Sciences/ Biological Sciences/Wildlife Science or any subject relevant to Wildlife Sciences) degree from a recognized University with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks.
 DESIRABLE QUALIFICATION
 The researcher should have good skills in bird identification, preferably some experience in bird trapping using mist nets and a decent knowledge of their vocalizations also. His/her familiarity with birds of Western Himalayas would be an added qualification. He/she should be ready to spend time in difficult conditions in the forests of Western Himalayas (Kashmir). He/she should be ready to travel abroad at a short notice for skill enhancement for the execution of field and lab work.
 DESCRIPTION OF WORK
 The task in the field would primarily involve trapping birds using mist nets and obtaining sperm samples, and in the lab studying sperm morphology, analyzing it and writing reports etc.
 GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS
1. Candidate for the position of Research Associate (RA) should be below 40 years of age as on 1st February 2012 and the upper age limit may be relaxed up to 5 years for candidates belonging to SC/ST. The age of the candidate for the advertised position of a Project Biologist shall not be more than 28 years as on 1st February 2012 and may be relaxed up to 5 years, as in case of candidates  belonging to SC/ST/OBC/Women and physically handicapped categories.
2. The selected candidate for the position of Research Associate (RA-I) will be paid consolidated emoluments of ` 22,000/- per month and candidate for the position of Project Bilogist will be paid consolidated emoluments of ` 12,000/- per month.
3. Engagement on the above positions will be purely on a temporary basis initially and may be extended for further period depending upon the requirement and the tenure of project/cell.
4. Selected candidates may be allowed hostel accommodation at the institute, as per availability. Where the hostel accommodation is not possible, house rent allowance (HRA) will be paid as per the rules of the Institute subject to the condition that HRA payable, in no case, shall be more than the rates payable to Central Govt./WII Employee(s) in that area. Other allowances and benefits to the research personnel would be admissible as per the rules of the Institute, amended from time to time.
5. The selection of the candidates will be based on the walk-in-interview to be held on Monday, 6th February 2012 at the Wildlife Institute of India, Dehra Dun. The registration of candidates will begin by 09:00 A.M. onwards.
6. Canvassing in any form is liable to rejection of the candidature.
7. Candidates should bring the duly filled-in applications with attested true copies of testimonials of educational qualifications, research experience, extracurricular activities, date of birth etc., along with copies of mark sheets of all examinations. QUALIFICATION: ESSENTIAL: M.Sc. in Botany/Forestry with minimum 55% marks with specialization in Ecology/Taxonomy. Working knowledge of Computer is desirable.
POST: Project Assistant(01)
EMOLUMENTS: 9000/- p.m.(Fixed)
DURATION: Upto Oct., 2012           
QUALIFICATION: ESSENTIAL: B.Sc. in Biology (Botany Zoology and Chemistry) with minimum 50% marks. Working knowledge of Computer is desirable.

1.      Age limit is 28 years as on 01-01-2012 (relaxable by 5 years for SC/ST and 3 years for OBC candidates).
2.      The positions are purely on temporary basis and co-terminus with the projects period or fellowship duration, whichever is earlier.

JRF post(eco-restoration of abandoned mining areas) at Mizoram University, Aizawl

Applications are invited from eligible candidates for appointment of one Junior Research Fellow (@ Rs. 12,000 + HRA per month), under Ministry of Environment & Forests (MoEF), New Delhi on ‘Impact of stone mining on water quality of Tlawng river in Aizawl, Mizoram: Strategy for management of river through eco-restoration of abandoned mining areas’.
The applicants should have good academic record with M. Sc. in Environmental Science/ Botany/ Forestry/ Bio-technology/ Biodiversity or related subject.
The NET qualified candidate having experience in field of water pollution and pant taxonomy will be preferred. The appointment will be on purely temporary basis and co-terminus with the project. No TA/DA will be paid to the candidates, if called for interview.
