ABOUT THE PROJECT: India has one of the extended coastal ecosystems and being one of the mega diversity hot spots, abounds in biodiversity. The members of the phylum Spirochetes are an important group of bacteria which are free living in association as symbionts or most important pathogens. The present project for the first time primarily aims in cataloging the rich diversity of free living spirochetes of marine habitats of India through culture dependent and independent (metagenomics) approaches using pyrosequencing technology. In addition, the work involves studies on bioprospecting the metabolites produced by the spirochetes and the identification of biomolecules using polychem analysis. The research work involves an inter-disciplinary approach involving biology and chemistry which helps the candidate to be trained in the upcoming areas of metagenomics/metabolomics coupled to bioprospecting. Selected candidates are expected to register for Ph.D.

We are seeking a self-reliant individual able to manage elements of a high profile international project which includes extensive travel and personnel management. It is a full-time 3 year post.
JUNIOR RESEARCH FELLOW
Two Junior Research fellows to join the team. One of the positions is reserved for a CSIR NET Fellowship holder. The successful candidates will set-up and carry out long-term monitoring of pollinators at the CPS research station/s in Orissa and Tripura. There will be an opportunity to develop independent research and the successful candidate will be registered for a PhD at the University of Calcutta.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
A M.Sc. in biological science (Istclass) is required. An interest in plant – animal interactions is also desirable. The post will require a self-motivated person who is capable of working under difficult conditions in a relatively isolated area for long periods. Advertisement for the post of Junior Research Fellow -1 and Project Assistant - 1
Applications are invited for one Junior Research Fellow and one Project Assistant to work on Department of Science and Technology (DST, Govt. of India) funded research project
PROJECT TITLE:Screening carbon sequestration efficient forest trees and pulp wood species under elevated CO2, coupled with enhanced acidic and Ozone conditions”.
The successful candidate is expected to have postgraduate degree in Environmental science/Life Sciences/Plant Sciences/ with a specialized research interest in climate change and carbon sequestration. Knowledge/experience in plant growth chamber/open top chamber experiments will be an advantage.
