• The Department of Animal
Biotechnology with its state of the art facilities and well-qualified faculty
by offering training programmes to interested researchers and students,
contribute to the development of quality human resource in this frontier area
• This could reduce the shortage
to quality manpower and thus facilitate our nation to harness this frontier
area of science for human and animal welfare
The Human Resource Development
(HRD) unit of this Department offers the following levels of training
programmes:
LEVEL I TRAINING –
SHORT TERM TRAINING FOR 5 DAYS DURATION
The training would be on any of
the following areas:

Animal Cell culture
Media preparation, Maintenance of
cell lines, Primary cell culture, Cytotoxic assay, Cryopreservation of cell
lines and Karyotyping
Isolation and characterization
of adult/embryonic stem cells
Preparation of Media and reagents
for stem cell isolation, Magnetic activated cell separation using cell surface
marker, alkaline phosphatase activity and fluorescence / flow cytometry of
cultured cells
Diagnostic techniques
Rabies virus antigen detection by
fluorescence antibody test, Rapid fluorescence foci inhibition test, SDS-PAGE,
Western blot and latex agglutination test
Flow cytometry
Demonstration and handling of
flow cytometer, CellQuest software, isolation of chicken mononuclear cells,
staining of chicken mononuclear cells for CD4 and CD8 and cell cycle analysis
Protein purification
Ammonium sulfate precipitation ,
affinity column purification, protein separation by SDS-PAGE, Western blot,
ELISA
Application of bioinformatics
tools
Primer design for PCR,
dendrogram, multiple sequence alignment, sequence assembly, EST analysis and
Gene annotation (Blast2go), Phylogenetic analysis-MEGA (using Bestfit method),
Lasergene software and Protein modeling
Typing of bacteria
Bacterial isolation and characterization,
DNA extraction, 16s rDNA PCR, RAPD, sequencing and typing of bacteria based on
sequence results
In vitro maturation and
fertilization
Harvesting and grading of
oocytes, separation and analysis of sperm, assessment of fertilization,
preparation of oviduct epithelial cell culture and cleavage studies
Cryopreservation of oocytes and
embryo
Principles of cryopreservation,
demonstration of programmable cell freezer, preparation of cryopreservation
media, slow freezing and vitrification procedure, post thaw assessment of
oocytes/ embryos
Micromanipulation technique
Preparation of holding and
injection pipette, embryo sexing by blastomere aspiration. Demonstrations on
somatic cell nuclear transfer, transgenic animal production and siRNA injection
Ultrasonography studies of
reproductive parameters in farm animals
Principles of ultrasonographic
imaging, demonstration of ultrasonogram equipments, assessing the follicular
and luteal structures under physiological and pathological condition, pregnancy
diagnosis, ovum pick-up methods
• This level of training involves
80% of hands-on training component and ~20% theoretical aspects
• The training fees is Rs. 8000/-
per individual
• A minimum of 2 and a maximum of
5 participants would be permitted at a time
• Students and researchers having
sufficient basic knowledge on life sciences / biotechnological techniques can
apply any time of the year
• An application in plain paper
indicating your address, qualifications and other academic details along with a
bonafide certificate from your institution may be submitted anytime of the year
• The time for the training may
be fixed in consultation with the concerned faculty involved in offering
training in that specified area
LEVEL II – LONG
TERM OVERVIEW TRAINING FOR 28 DAYS DURATION
• This training is meant to give
an overview of various facets of Biotechnology namely, Molecular biology,
Immuno technology, Cell culture and Hybridoma technology and Embryo and related
biotechnologies including stem cells.
• This involves ~80% of
theoretical aspects and demonstration s with ~20% of ‘hands-on’ training.
• The training fees is Rs.
10,000/- per individual
• A maximum of 32 participants
would be permitted at a time
• Both undergraduate and post
graduate students of any science discipline who wants to get on overall insight
into biotechnology can apply
• An application in plain paper
indicating your address, qualifications and other academic details (including
photocopy of the mark sheet of the last university examination passed) along
with a bonafide certificate from your institution may be submitted during
January - March of each year
• Selection is based on the marks
/ CGPA obtained in the last University Examination passed
• The training is usually held in
May-June every year

Animal Cell culture
Primary cell culture, Sub
culture, Cryopreservation, Cytotoxicity assay, Maintenance of cell lines, Cell
counting
Molecular Biology
Isolation of DNA/RNA from blood
and bacteria, PCR, RE digestion, RT-PCR, Real time PCR and Sequencing
Immuno technology
SDS-PAGE, Western blotting, ELISA
methods, Flow cytometry, Fluorescence antibody technique and monoclonal
antibody production, isotyping.
Embryo Biotechnology
Oocyte collection and grading, In
vitro maturation, In vitro fertilization, Cryopreservation of oocyte and
embryos, embryo sexing, gene expression in embryos, stem cells isolation
methods
LEVEL III – PROJECT
WORK OR IN-PLANT TRAINING FOR 3 MONTHS DURATION
• This programme is intended for
students doing their final year research projects / in-plant training with 100%
‘hands-on’ work experience.
• The training fees is Rs.
20,000/- per individual.
• A maximum of 30 participants
would be permitted at a time.
• The Project work may be chosen
in the broad areas of Molecular Biology, Animal Cell Culture, Immuno
technology, Animal Genomics and Embryo biotechnology including stem cells in
consultation with the concerned faculty.
• An application in plain paper
in the prescribed format may be submitted during June-August of each year.
• Selection would be based on the
academic performance of the candidate along with their statement of purpose of
the Project Work to be undertaken
• The training is usually held in
November- February of each academic year.
All payments should be made only
after confirmation of selection of the candidate
