Postdoctoral positions in “Fungal Septomics”

The Centre for Innovation Competence (CIC) SEPTOMICS is a research centre of the Friedrich-Schiller-University Jena, the Jena University Hospital and the Leibniz Institute for Natural Product Research and Infection Biology - Hans-Knoell-Institute - funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research. SEPTOMICS research focus lies on the pathogenesis and the pathophysiology of sepsis. As a unique centre for integrated sepsis research SEPTOMICS combines state-of-the-art interdisciplinary fundamental research on sepsis pathogens and the associated host response with cutting-edge clinical expertise in order to develop an improved holistic model of sepsis. Such a model is indispensable for the development of new, badly needed, life-saving sepsis diagnostics and biopharmaceuticals (http://www.septomics.de/).
Starting from October 15, 2011 SEPTOMICS offers a position as Scientific Assistant (PostDoc, 40hrs/week, TV-L E13) in the research group “Fungal Septomics“ (Head Prof. Dr. Oliver Kurzai).
The group analyses the pathophysiology of systemic mycoses. The working spectrum comprises fundamental infection biology as well as clinically oriented questions. The main focus of the applicants research will be the characterization of the interaction of human pathogenic fungi with human immune cells.
The recruiter expects a natural science university degree with a completed PhD, outstanding general knowledge and a good proficiency in German and English. Practical experiences in immunological and/or cell biological techniques are of advantage, although this position is also suited for candidates that recently finished their PhD. Apart from the scientific work your tasks will also include the supervision of master, diploma and PhD students.
The position offers a challenging and diversified position in a fascinating interdisciplinary research field at the interface between fundamental research and clinical application. Salary is paid according to German TV-L depending on the applicant’s qualification. The contract is initially limited to one year, an extension is possible.
