Postdoctoral position in transcriptome analysis of innate immune cells at University Hospital, Jena , Germany

Postdoctoral position in transcriptome analysis of innate immune cells

Postdoctoral position in transcriptome analysis of innate immune cells is available in the “Host Septomics” group at the University Hospital Jena headed by Prof. Hortense Slevogt.
START DATE: The tentative start date is November 1st, 2011 or soon thereafter. The position is initially limited until November, 2013 but may be extended depending on funding.
BACKGROUND:
The “Host Septomics” group aims to analyse the cellular responses to an infection with the most common bacterial sepsis pathogens on a molecular level. The group use human primary cell cultures, patient samples and mouse models of infection to establish integrative models linking intracellular signal transduction, genome and transcriptome sequencing and cellular responses to investigate the pathogenesis of sepsis (http://www.septomics.de/).
The position is focused on genome and transcriptome sequencing of next-generation sequencing data, in particular transcriptome analysis. A PhD in a relevant field is required. The ideal candidate should have demonstrated interests and experiences in the analysis of genomic and transcriptomic data, ideally high-throughput sequencing data arising from the Illumina iScanSQ System. In addition, excellent experience with molecular procedures such as isolation of innate immune cells, Real-time PCR gain-of-function and loss-of-function techniques are required. She/he should have a strong background in immunology, molecular and cellular microbiology but other areas of expertise will be considered. Moreover, strong research experience in the analysis of large and diverse datasets and excellent communication skills to work in a multi-disciplinary team are of importance.
