National Workshop in Super Resolution and 4D-confocal Imaging, Umea, Sweden

National Workshop in Super Resolution and 4D-confocal Imaging

Date: 22- 23 November 2011
ORGANISED BY: Biochemical Imaging Centre, Umeå
LOCATION:
Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics, Umeå University
Welcome to the first workshop in super resolution and live cell imaging organised by the Biochemical Imaging Centre together with UCMR, MIMS and KBC and held in conjunction to the 5th National Infection Biology meeting in Umeå. The workshop aims at providing a thorough and up-to-date theoretical background, and practical exercises in live-cell imaging microscopy, and STochastic Optical Reconstruction Microscopy (STORM) imaging.
The 2-day workshop is composed by seminars the first day. These seminars are covering the latest in advanced imaging techniques, and held by international and reputed scientists in the field. Seminars are open for public. During the second day, experienced staff from the centre and from Nikon will have demonstrations and provide instructions in practical exercises at the microscopes. Participation in the second day will be limited to 12.
Participation in the practical part of the workshop is primarily thought for research scientists, postdoctoral trainees and graduate students that already have a general understanding and experience of microscopy. Therefore selection of participants will be based on previous experience and project relevance.
The practical exercises will be on the Nikon A1R system capable of; capturing confocal images with full spectral resolution in high-speed and high-resolution, TIRF imaging FRET and FRAP experiments. In combination with live cell incubation and micromanipulation, the system is rapid enough to allow real-time imaging of dynamic cellular and molecular processes in 3D. The system is also equipped with N-STORM. STochastic Optical Reconstruction Microscopy (STORM) reconstructs a super resolution fluorescent image with a resolution of 10 times greater than conventional microscopes.
