Postdoctoral Fellow( Systems Biology of Bone) position at Sanger Institute

Sanger Institute
POST: Postdoctoral Fellow: Systems Biology of Bone
SALARY RANGE: £28,280 to £34,778 per annum dependent on experience.
Seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to carry out fundamental research in Dr. Vijay Yadav's team on the factors that regulate bone mass, including the study of new mouse models of bone abnormalities; investigating the changes in endocrine systems and identifying the mechanisms involved. The role will involve evaluating large quantitites of genetic data to enhance the understanding of skeletal disorders and applying these novel insights to plan the next generation of studies of disease genetics.

The Sanger Institute is a world leader in large-scale genome sequencing, informatics and the production of animal models to study gene function; providing the successful candidate with excellent resources and a stimulating research environment. There is a commitment to personal and professional development in the group, and the successful applicant will be encouraged to develop their own ideas, drive their research project and establish a strong academic profile.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS
The successful candidate will have specific expertise in molecular genetic techniques, with the relevant knowledge of computational tools and a strong background in mouse or human molecular genetics with a Ph.D. in molecular biology or bone biology. In depth knowledge of specific aspects of mouse genetics and endocrine systems is essential as is an established track record of first author publications in peer reviewed journals.
IDEAL SKILLS
Previous experience in mouse genetics is essential, and cell culture experience is desirable. The candidate should display that they have the ability to work in a team and to organise their own work and the work of others. A more detailed description of required skills and experience is outlined in the role profile.
OTHER INFORMATION
Postdoctoral Fellows are typically in their first or second postdoctoral position as part of a period of early career research training. Successful applicant(s) who have submitted their PhD thesis and are awaiting their PhD award to be confirmed will be placed on a transitional pay point, currently £26,103. On confirmation applicants will be moved on to the pay range above.
The Systems Biology of Bone Group studies the genes and gene networks that regulate bone cell functions using mice as model organisms. Their long-term aim is to identify therapeutic targets for treating bone abnormalities. For informal inquiries about the position please contact Vijay Yadav (vy1@sanger.ac.uk ) and additional information about the Group can be found at http://www.sanger.ac.uk/research/projects/bonesystemsbiology/
This is a 3 year fixed-term position.
