Faculty Positions in our new Stem Cells and Cellular Phenotyping Programme
The Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute, based south of Cambridge, is one of the world’s leading genomic research centres funded primarily by the Wellcome Trust. Our mission is to use genome sequences to advance understanding of the biology of humans and pathogens in order to improve human health.
The Institute conducts research in four thematic areas – human genetics, pathogen genetics, model organism genetics and informatics. Building on its expertise in the genetic manipulation of ES cells and the production of iPS cells, we are developing plans for a new scientific programme in stem cells and cellular phenotyping [SCCP]. The programme will have two major components – a resource of stem cells/iPS cells and a high-throughput cellular phenotyping platform. The new platform will sit alongside our established large scale experimental pipelines as part of an extensive scientific infrastructure including sequencing, genotyping, sample management, large scale PCR and others which support and drive numerous projects both internally and externally.
Scientific leadership, technical expertise and operational excellence will be needed to realise the vision of this high profile strategic initiative and we therefore wish to bring the best possible team together. We will be recruiting at a number of levels during the coming months – faculty, technology experts and senior operational managers. Our initial focus is on establishing the complex infrastructure and implementing a fully operational pipeline. This in turn will bring scientific opportunities and new lines of enquiry by allowing us to assess the impact of genetic variation at the cellular level in health and disease.
We are seeking outstanding scientists with interests in reprogramming of cells to iPS cells, differentiating pluripotent cells to somatic tissues and/or engineering of stem cells. Individuals with broad interests in these technologies and their application to the development of cellular models are encouraged to apply.
Applications are invited from scientists at different career stages – from first faculty position (CDF Group Leader or Group Leader - salary from £45,000) to senior PIs with a significant track record of successful independent research (Senior Group Leader – salary from £65,000). We also offer excellent benefits and relocation support. Applications from women, who are under-represented in our Faculty, are particularly encouraged, although we welcome approaches from any scientists with relevant research interests.
