J. Craig Venter Institute (JCVI)
POST: Post Doc, Computational
REQUISITION CODE: MICR898
LOCATION: La Jolla, California
DEPARTMENT: Microbial & Environmental Genomics
SCHEDULE: Full Time
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
The J. Craig Venter Institute (JCVI), a not-for-profit research institute dedicated to the advancement of the science of genomics, is seeking a Post-Doctoral Fellow specializing in Computational Biology and Bioinformatics. We are especially interested in development of analysis pipelines geared toward integrated analysis of next-generation sequencing data and systems biology. The position also involves analyses of transcriptomic (RNAseq; mRNA and non-coding RNA) and protein interaction data (ChIP-Seq) for microalage generated from affymetrix and next –generation sequencing platforms. Part of the position might also entail analyses of prokaryotic and eukaryotic metagenomic and metatranscriptomic data from various marine ecosystems. Therefore experience with and interest in metagenomics data is also of interest. The successful candidate will report to Dr. Andrew Allen in the Microbial and Environmental Genomics group in our San Diego office. An overall theme within the group is the elucidation of links between molecular evolution, cellular metabolism, and ecosystem biogeochemistry.
QUALIFICATIONS
Successful candidates will have a PhD in a relevant scientific discipline plus a strong background in programming (Perl or Ruby, C/C++, Unix). Candidates should also have demonstrated interest and experience bioinformatics and microbial ecology and evolution.
