POST: PhD fellow in Antimicrobial resistance
Department of Veterinary Disease Biology at University of Copenhagen offers a PhD scholarship for three years commencing February 1st 2012 or as soon as possible thereafter. The application deadline is January 1st 2012.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The PhD project is part of a large research project in collaboration with seven Danish and international partners. The project aims to understand the influence of antimicrobial treatment strategies on antimicrobial resistance development in pig production.
The student will have a specific research assignment with emphasis on experimental studies of resistance development using animal models and genetically marked bacterial strains. The project is financed by the Danish Strategic Research Council. The position is placed in the section for Microbiology, which currently houses one of the largest research groups in antibiotic resistance in Denmark. The group coordinates and participates in several Danish and EU-funded projects on antibiotic resistance.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Your key tasks as a PhD fellow at University of Copenhagen are:
Ø Manage and carry out your research project. The project is co-supervised by Professor Stefan Schwarz, Friedrich-Loeffler Institute, Germany, and the student must be willing to spend up to 6 months in his laboratory
Ø Take PhD courses
Ø Write scientific articles and your PhD thesis
Ø Participate in international congresses
Ø Teach and disseminate your research
KEY CRITERIA FOR THE ASSESSMENT OF CANDIDATES
· A master´s degree related to the subject area of the project
· The grade point average achieved
· Professional qualifications relevant to the PhD programme
· Work with antimicrobial resistance
· Work with molecular microbiology
· Work with experimental animals
· Previous publications
· Relevant work experience
· Other professional activities
· Language skills
· Interpersonal skills
FORMAL REQUIREMENTS
The position is available for a 3-year period for applicants holding a relevant master´s degree.
The successful applicant of the PhD scholarship must pass an enrolment in a Graduate School at University of Copenhagen before the University can finish the letter of employment.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
The position will be filled according to the agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The post is covered by the Protocol on Job Structure.
