Conduct experiments to evaluate breeding lines related with molecular marker application platform and manage researchers/technicians/workers conducting phenotyping and screening.

DUTIES

1. Design and conduct experiments for molecular marker application targeting abiotic and biotic stress tolerance and some important agronomic traits.

2. Be responsible to maintain seeds and plant materials healthy and coordinate phenotype data recording from different groups to be centralized.

3. Assist molecular breeder and marker specialist to establish the molecular breeding platform.

4. Provide solution to technical problems and issues affecting operation of the greenhouse/field testing and recommend to the supervisor.

5. Prepare/write reports, interpretation, and presentation based on data analysis, and serve as a resource person in molecular breeding workshop and the related training programs.

6. Performs other related duties as maybe assigned from time to time by the supervising IRS

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

•Masters degree, Plant Breeding, Genetics, Agronomy

•Minimum 3 years

•Experience in greenhouse/field experiences, molecular techniques and statistics. Excellent in oral and written communication skills and computer skills, e.g. MS Office and basic statistics softwares (CropStat, Minitab, etc).

•Good membership, time management, and hard work

Assist in evaluation of new rice varieties with various stakeholders through Participatory Varietal Selection (PVS) in three townships in the lower regions of the Ayeyarwady delta. Work closely with the breeder to oversee seed production and training activities, and actively team up with others in the project. The position will be located in Yezin, Myanmar.

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

• Responsible for running of trials, maintenance and data gathering and analyses of research-managed PVS trials using tolerant range of rice varieties in three townships of the Ayeyarwady delta lower regions (Labutta, Bogale and Mawlamyinegyun) and at DAR station in Yezin.

• Assist in conducting large-scale farmer’s managed trials (baby trial) of farmer’s preferred varieties and in data gathering and processing.

• Assist in the seed production of farmers’ preferred varieties for distribution to target areas in collaboration with NGO partners, MAS and DAR

• Perform all other related duties that may be assigned from time to time by the supervisor

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

• MS in Plant Breeding, Agronomy or related fields

• 4 years relevant crop science field research experience

• Good oral and written communication in English, must have excellent computer skills especially data encoding and analysis, spread sheets and graphic presentation; must have the ability to deal with research collaborators; could perform experiments with minimum supervision; must have supervisory skills, team player

Eligible candidates are invited to attend Walk-in-interview for one post each of Research Associate and Senior Research Fellow under “National Initiative on climate resilient agriculture for XI plan” to be held on 19th January, 2012 at 11.A.M in the “ATIC building” of the complex at Umiam.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATION: Master Degree in Plant Breding/Biotechnology / Biochemistry / Plant Physiology / Agronomy Agro-metereology /Environmental Science. Working knowledge of computer, ability to speak or understand local languages is desirable.

 MAXIMUM AGE LIMIT: 40yrs for men and 45yrs for women candidates for the post of Research Associate and 35 years for men and 40 years for women candidates for the post of Senior Research Fellow.

No TA/DA and official accommodation will be provided for appearing in the interview. The posts are purely contractual and co-terminus with the project and having no provision for regularization. The Director reserves the right to cancel/postpone the interview without assigning any reason thereof. He also reserves the right to terminate the contract, even before completion of the project for which no appeal thereof shall be made. Emoluments payable are as per approved rates of ICAR.
