POST: Scientist-Genetic Resources
ICRISAT seeks applications from Indian nationals for the position of Scientist-Genetic Resources, as part of a continuing expansion in the institute’s commitment to using genetic resources and modern approaches to crop improvement. This position is based at Patancheru, Andhra Pradesh.
ICRISAT is one of the members of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). CGIAR is a global partnership that unites organizations engaged in research for sustainable development with the funders of this work. The funders include developing and industrialized country governments, foundations, and international and regional organizations. The work they support is carried out by 15 members of the Consortium of International Agricultural Research Centers, in close collaboration with hundreds of partner organizations, including national and regional research institutes, civil society organizations, academia, and the private sector. THE JOB: Assess diversity of germplasm collections using morpho-agronomic and molecular markers data, developing representative subsets using passport, characterization/evaluation data, characterization/evaluation cultivated germplasm subsets to identify trait-specific germplasm and use of wild genepools through pre-breeding, assist in other genebank related activities, and prepare project proposals and reports.
THE PERSON: The candidates should be PhD in Plant Breeding and/or Genetics with 5 years of post-doctoral experience. Knowledge and experience of genetic resources utilization, experience of analysis of large sized datasets on phenotypic traits and markers to assess diversity and developing germplasm subsets. Preference will be given to candidates with a strong publication record. Ability to work in a multidisciplinary, multi-cultural environment of the institute is important.
THE REWARD: This position is in the scientific and managerial group of ICRISAT, with a competitive salary and benefits package paid in Indian rupees, which includes attractive perquisites. The position is for an initial three year period, and may be extended depending on requirement, funding availability and performance of the incumbent.
