POST: Manager, Genebank Seed Laboratory
ICRISAT seeks applications from Indian nationals for the positions of Manager, Genebank Seed Laboratory and Manager, Germplasm Conservation, as part of a continuing expansion in the institute’s commitment to using genetic resources and modern approaches to crop improvement. These positions are based at Patancheru, Andhra Pradesh.
ICRISAT is one of the members of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). CGIAR is a global partnership that unites organizations engaged in research for sustainable development with the funders of this work. The funders include developing and industrialized country governments, foundations, and international and regional organizations. The work they support is carried out by 15 members of the Consortium of International Agricultural Research Centers, in close collaboration with hundreds of partner organizations, including national and regional research institutes, civil society organizations, academia, and the private sector. RESPONSIBILITIES: Plan and coordinate genetic resources activities in seed processing; organize germination and seed quality testing, documentation, inventory; develop operational procedures and practices for seed laboratory; contribute to research on seed quality at the ICRISAT genebank, and prepare project reports.
DESIRED CANDIDATE’S PROFILE: The candidate should be MSc in Agriculture or Botany with 15 years’ experience of handling seed laboratory of a large national or international genebank and contributing to the seed quality research. Ability to work in a multidisciplinary, multi-cultural environment of the institute is important.
THE REWARD: These positions are in the scientific and managerial group of ICRISAT, with a competitive salary and benefits package paid in Indian rupees, which includes attractive perquisites. These positions are for an initial three year period, and may be extended depending on requirement, funding availability and performance of the incumbent.
