Manager (Germplasm Conservation) vacancy at ICRISAT, Patancheru, Hyderabad

POST: Manager, Germplasm Conservation
ICRISAT seeks applications from Indian nationals for the positions of  Manager, Genebank Seed Laboratory and Manager, Germplasm Conservation, as part of a continuing expansion in the institute’s commitment to using genetic resources and modern approaches to crop improvement.  These positions are based at Patancheru, Andhra Pradesh.
ICRISAT is one of the members of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR).  CGIAR is a global partnership that unites organizations engaged in research for sustainable development with the funders of this work. The funders include developing and industrialized country governments, foundations, and international and regional organizations. The work they support is carried out by 15 members of the Consortium of International Agricultural Research Centers, in close collaboration with hundreds of partner organizations, including national and regional research institutes, civil society organizations, academia, and the private sector. RESPONSIBILITIES: Plan and organize germplasm conservation of mandate crops and small millets in the genebank at ICRISAT; up-keeping databases of crop germplasm passport information, characterization and evaluation data, and to develop cost-effective conservation methods, and  identification of gaps in the germplasm collections.
DESIRED CANDIDATE’S PROFILE: The candidate should be MSc in Agriculture or Botany with 15 years’ experience of handling self and/or cross pollinating crops in regeneration, characterization and evaluation. Experience in gap analysis of collections would be an advantage. Ability to work in a multidisciplinary, multi-cultural environment of the institute is important.
THE REWARD: These positions are in the scientific and managerial group of ICRISAT, with a competitive salary and benefits package paid in Indian rupees, which includes attractive perquisites. These positions are for an initial three year period, and may be extended depending on requirement, funding availability and performance of the incumbent.
