Post Doctoral Fellow in Quantitative Evaluation of Metabolic Pathways at National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, Bethesda, MD

National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, Bethesda, MD and surrounding area
POST: Post Doctoral Fellow(Quantitative Evaluation of Metabolic Pathways)
A Postdoctoral position is available in the Laboratory of Metabolic Control (LMC), Division of Intramural Clinical and Biological Research (DICBR), National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), National Institutes of Health (NIH), Rockville, MD, beginning in August 2012. The Laboratory of Metabolic Control defines the phenotype of disease by determining the kinetic and thermodynamic factors involved in the alterations of metabolic pathways and reactions causing simple genetic and multifactorial complex disease states. From this, it defines therapeutic measures which can return the diseased to the normal phenotype. The Postdoctoral position's work will consist of quantitative evaluation of metabolic pathways under different conditions, with special emphasis on changes in glycolytic and Krebs cycle metabolites, as well as biochemical thermodynamic calculations. The effects of ketosis on neurodegenerative and metabolic disorders will be investigated. Experience with mammalian systems, Western blot analysis, PCR and analysis of signaling pathways are desirable.
REQUIREMENTS:
Candidates must have an M.D. or Ph.D., and less than 5 years postdoctoral experience.
TO APPLY:
For consideration, please email a CV, bibliography, cover letter with a brief description of research experience and interests, and three letters of reference to: Dr. Richard Veech at rveech@mail.nih.gov  .

The National Institute on Aging (NIA), a major research component of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), is recruiting postdoctoral fellows with interest in cognitive and brain aging in the Laboratory of Behavioral Neuroscience (LBN).
Since 1994, we have been performing serial structural and functional (PET-CBF) brain imaging studies of participants in the Baltimore Longitudinal Study of Aging. More recently, these studies have included PET studies of amyloid deposition in vivo. In addition, resources are available for the development of novel projects using structural and functional MRI methods to investigate age differences in particular cognitive domains. Our program involves extensive collaboration with the Johns Hopkins University neuroscience and imaging communities and the image processing group of Dr. Christos Davatzikos of the University of Pennsylvania.
REQUIREMENTS:
The successful candidate will have research interests in the related fields of psychology/neuroscience, experience with analysis of neuropsychological or neuroimaging data, and strong writing skills. Preference will be given to individuals with experience in functional connectivity analysis. Fellowship duration is typically 3-4 years. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in psychology/neuroscience or M.D., with less than five years of postdoctoral research experience. The position is located in Baltimore, MD, a city with a stimulating scientific and cultural environment, with proximity to the Johns Hopkins medical campus. Post Doctoral Fellow in Mechanisms of Mutagenesis at National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, Research Triangle Park, NC

National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, Research Triangle Park, NC
POST: Post Doctoral Fellow(Mechanisms of Mutagenesis)
A postdoctoral position is available in the Laboratory of Molecular Genetics at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, USA. The laboratory investigates the mechanisms by which organisms produce mutations, which are being pursued by genetical and biochemical approaches using the bacterium E. coli as a model system. Specifically, we are aiming to understand the factors that determine the high-fidelity of chromosomal replication by Pol III holoenzyme complex (HE). In this project we are studying: (i) mutator mutants of E. coli whose defect is associated with the polymerase accessory factors, such as newly isolated mutator mutants of the dnaX gene; (ii) The role(s) of accessory DNA polymerases in determining DNA replication fidelity; (iii) the relative contributions of leading and lagging strand DNA replication; and (iv) the role of deoxynucleoside triphosphate (dNTP) pools in mutagenesis. A second main area of research is the mechanism of mutagenesis induced by mutagenic base analogs. Of particular interest is our discovery of a novel detoxification mechanism for N-hydroxylated base analogs, which has been found to be dependent on the molybdenum cofactor.
REQUIREMENTS:
Candidates must have a Ph.D. degree (or equivalent) with less than five years of postdoctoral experience, and have a demonstrated experience in biochemistry, molecular biology or genetics.
TO APPLY:
For consideration, send cover letter, CV including list of publications, and the names/phone numbers/E-mail addresses of three references to:

Laboratory of Molecular Genetics
National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences
MD E3-01, PO Box 12233
