BASIC PURPOSE: The Postdoctoral Fellow, Quantitative Plant Breeding, will implement existing statistical methods and develop new methods for rice breeding genetic studies.
Provide quantitative genetics support to breeders and geneticists, assist in the development of optimal breeding strategies and promote the application of advanced quantitative genetics approaches in breeding through the development of analytical packages/pipelines, training.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 • Develop, maintain, and document code/packages for plant genetic analysis, analyzing breeding trials and implementation of new statistical methodologies for breeding and genetic studies.
• Lead the development of software tools for making crossing and selection decision based on genotyping and phenotyping information.
• Assist in designing efficient (molecular) rice breeding strategies for recurrent backcrossing, gene pyramiding and recurrent selection.
• Participate in training NARES scientists in quantitative plant breeding methods and the use of decision-making software and computer simulation.
• Disseminate research findings through attendance at conferences, seminars and workshops and through various publications.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
• PhD in Plant/Animal Breeding and Genetics or related disciplines with strong statistical/biometrical background.
• Experience in scientific programming using Fortran, C++, Java, or C#
• A thorough knowledge of plant or animal breeding theory
Knowledge of QTL mapping, association mapping and marker-assisted selection
• Experience in the use of statistical software (e.g. R, ASREML, etc.).
• Fluent in written and oral English
