Project – Mountain Division
The Ministry of Environment and Forests, GOI has decided to establish a dedicated unit as its “Mountain Division” to address the issues related to mountain ecosystem in an integrated manner within the MoEF, its Institutions and across the relevant key Ministries, along with NGOs and Academia to ensure conservation of mountain ecosystem and sustainable development of the mountain regions.
Position/emoluments/duration/duty station: Coordinator; Emoluments commensurate with qualification and experience; initially for one year to be positioned at Ministry of Environment and Forests, Paryavaran Bhavan, CGO Complex, New Delhi.
Key responsibilities
i. To ensure an effective coordination between MoEF and GBPIHED on one hand, and MoEF and other agencies involved with mountain development.
ii. To facilitate MoEF in developing and strengthening the inter/intra ministerial coordination mechanism
iii. To prepare agenda and supporting documents for the meetings and events conducted through the Mountain Division.
1. Reports and Schedule of Deliverables:
i. To ensure an effective coordination between MoEF and GBPIHED on one hand, and MoEF and other agencies involved with Mountain Development;
ii. To facilitate MoEF in developing and strengthening the inter-ministerial coordination mechanism to ensure the mainstreaming and up scaling of sustainable mountain development practices both at the International, national and state level;
iii. To facilitate MoEF and GBPIHED in effectively organizing the meeting and events; and,
iv. To facilitate MoEF, the National Focal Point for ICIMOD in India, in handling and coordinating Mountain issues.
Qualifications/Experience/Age limit:
Doctoral degree in Life/Environment/Social Sciences/Humanities or Master’s degree in Life/Environmental/Civil/Chemical Engineering with consistently good academic record and excellent communication skills.
i. 5 years experience in the field of sustainable mountain development in diverse landscapes;
ii. Knowledge of Indian government institutional set-up and operations;
iii. Knowledge of government and non-governmental institutions in sustainable mountain development in India;
iv. Excellent interpersonal, problem-solving, diplomatic and team skills and proven ability to work across boundaries and interest groups; and
v. Strong written and spoken English language communication skills will be a must.
vi. Computer skills for conducting the work will be must.
Age limit – 50 years (can be relaxed in case of experienced candidates).
