Established in 1942, the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) is an autonomous Society whose President is the Prime Minister of India. An ensemble of 37 state-of-the-art national Laboratories/ Institutes, 6 Units and 39 Centres today, CSIR is amongst the foremost and largest publicly funded scientific and industrial research organizations in the world. CSIR delivers cutting edge science on one hand and state-ofthe- art technology on the other. CSIR is looking for outstanding R&D professionals to head its prestigious national Laboratories/ Institutes. A. PHYSICAL SCIENCES
CSIR - Central Scientific Instruments Organisation (CSIR-CSIO), Chandigarh is focused at R&D on scientific and industrial instruments and instrument systems. The Laboratory has significant knowledgebase particularly in domains relating to: bio-medical, agricultural, mechanical and strategic sectors and industrial process control systems.
CSIR-CSIO operates a prestigious Indo-Swiss Training Centre for creating highly skilled technical personnel for industry. Located at Chennai and Delhi, CSIR-CSIO has two outreach centres.

CSIR- National Institute of Oceanography (CSIR-NIO), Goa is a unique institution, pursuing Research and Development activities in the field of oceanography. It's major activities cover domains of physical, chemical, biological, geological, geophysical, engineering and pollution aspects of the seas around India. CSIR-NIO has contributed significantly for the development of knowledgebase for sea exploration and evaluation. It owns two coastal research vessel named Sagar Shukti and Sindu Sanklap. Located at Kochi, Mumbai and Visakhapatnam, CSIR-N10 has three outreach centres.

B. CHEMICAL SCIENCES
CSIR - Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (CSIR-IICT), Hyderabad, a multidisciplinary Laboratory possesses cutting edge knowledgebase in the domain of chemical technology. It's R&D activities cover a wide spectrum and include natural products chemistry, agrochemicals, drugs & intermediates, specialty and fine chemicals, fluoroorganics, materials, catalysts, lipid sciences & technology, coal, gas & energy, chemical and design engineering. CSIR-IICT has R&D partnership with several national and international industry and R&D organizations.

CSIR — North-East Institute of Science and Technology (CSIR-NEIST), Jorhat functions with the mandate of providing S&T needed for the effective utilization of natural resources of the North Eastern region. Over the years, CSIR-NEIST has developed expertise in several fields which include natural products chemistry, drug and drug intermediates, VSK cement technology, agro-technologies, petrochemicals and crude oil transportation, beneficiation chemicals, and geotechnical studies. CSIR-NEIST has one branch Laboratory at Itanagar and one outreach centre at Imphal.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. in Natural Sciences/Masters Degree in Engineering/Medical Sciences.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. in Engineering/Medical Sciences.
AGE: 45 years or above but not exceeding 58 years.
EXPERIENCE: 16 years of experience in Research and Development in the areas of activities of the Laboratory/Institute/Centre and demonstrated excellence in leadership therein.
Years of experience shall be computed from the beginning of his research career.
RELAXATION: The qualifications, age and experience can be relaxed in case of exceptionally meritorious candidates with the approval of DG, CSIR.
CANDIDATE: Should be creative, innovative and a well-recognized scientist/technologist  having a demonstrated ability to manage multidisciplinary R&D teams with excellent interpersonal relations. The candidate should be able to create a conducive environment for nurturing high class research and development.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The Director shall supervise and exercise administrative control on the staff of the Laboratory/Institute and shall be responsible for (i) realizing the mission of the Laboratory/Institute, and (ii) creating an environment in the Institute conducive to nurturing of innovation and high class R&D and other S&T activities of the Laboratory/Institute.
APPOINTMENT: The appointment to the post of Director will be made for a tenure of six years or till the age of superannuation whichever is earlier in the pay scale of Z. 67,000 (annual increment @ 3%) - 79,000/HAG plus allowances as admissible. In deserving cases, the tenure period can be extended by another term upto six years or till the age of superannuation whichever is earlier. The provision to share the money realized from external contract R&D, consultancy and rendering of S&T services is also available as per extant rules. Residential accommodation and transport are provided as per rules. In addition medical, LTC and other facilities are provided as per CSIR rules.
