POST: DATA MANAGEMENT SPECIALIST (ICRISAT/IER)
ICRISAT invites applications for a DATA MANAGEMENT SPECIALIST for its Collaborative Project with the Institut du  Economie Rurale (IER), Soutuba, Mali.  This position is for a two year period.
ICRISAT is a non-profit, non-political organization that conducts agricultural research for development in Asia and sub-Saharan Africa with a wide array of partners throughout the world. Covering 6.5 million square kilometers of land in 55 countries, the semi-arid tropics is home to over 2 billion people, with 650 million of these the poorest of the poor. ICRISAT and its partners help empower those living in the semi-arid tropics, especially smallholder farmers, to overcome poverty, hunger, malnutrition and a degraded environment through more efficient and profitable agriculture. ICRISAT is headquartered in Greater Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India and belongs to the Consortium of Centers supported by the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR).

RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Assist scientists with the management of pedigree, phenotypic and genotypic data, using the IBP platform options, or other database management options.
•Train sorghum breeding scientists in Mali, and participating neighbouring countries in the use of data management and data analysis software, and other options provided by the IBP, for integrated breeding projects.
•Assists scientists with analysis of molecular and phenotypic data collected by the projects.
•Assists the Sorghum Community of Practice with advice on data management.
•Define and implement data standards and best practices for Research Data Management by developing ontologies, phenotyping protocols, quality standards, trait dictionaries, templates and fieldbooks.
THE PERSON:

•The ideal candidate will possess a Master’s or equivalent degree in data management/statistics or crop science  with two or more years of experience in information technology with strong background in information management and computer science.
•Experience in developing data management systems will be added advantage.
•Ability to work collegially and collaboratively in diverse, multicultural partnerships with excellent communications skills in written and spoken English and French.
•A willingness to travel nationally and internationally.
TERMS OF APPOINTMENT, SALARY AND BENEFITS:
Employment contract will be for a two-year term. This is an internationally recruited staff position. Salary will be internationally competitive, paid in US dollars, and commensurate with experience. ICRISAT provides additional benefits, including employer-paid medical, life and disability insurance and retirement benefits. Allowances toward hardship, relocation, housing, home leave travel, dependent children’s education and annual leave are also provided.
