Twin workshops on Genes to Genomes: bioinformatics approaches and Proteins to Proteomes: bioinformatics approaches

Bioinformatics Centre
University of Pune
announces
Twin workshops on
Genes to Genomes: bioinformatics approaches (G2G)
&
Proteins to Proteomes: bioinformatics approaches (P2P)

Website : http://bioinfo.net.in/workshops.html

Preamble
Biology has become a data rich science with the advent of modern methodologies. It encompasses micro as well as macro level data ranging from genes to genomes, proteins to proteomes, genotypes to phenotypes and spans from individuals to populations and ecosystems. Bioinformatics has added a third dimension of "in silico" to the existing "in vivo" and "in vitro" approaches to study Biology. Over the last twenty-five years bioinformatics has emerged as a full-fledged discipline, which is a landmark event in the history of biological sciences. It contributes the ability to compile, curate and process vast amount of biological data to accelerate knowledge discovery in life sciences. Experimental and computational approaches are complementary to each other and their seamless integration is essential to address mega problems in biology.
Bioinformatics has brought in a paradigm shift in the way in which modern biology is practised and taught today.
Studies of biological macromolecules are of prime importance for gaining insights into complex biological phenomena of viruses, prokaryotes and eukaryotes. Analyses of sequence-structure-function relationships and biomolecular interactions are fundamental for understanding of life & its processes. Bioinformatics offers a large number of resources to study genes and proteins as well as genomes and proteomes. Over the past years, application of bioinformatics methodologies has significantly contributed to generate valuable insights into evolution, molecular, cellular and physiological functions. Application of bioinformatics approaches has enabled efficient archival, retrieval and mining of voluminous and complex data that is generated by post-genomic technologies. It caters to data processing at various levels, including genome assembly, annotations of sequences, structures and functions, comparative analyses and classifications, gene/protein expression profiling and networks, metabolic pathway analyses, etc. The ever-improving experimental techniques continue to pose new challenges for bioinformatics, thereby contributing to the growth of this multidisciplinary area
