PostDoctoral fellowship at National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences , NIH

National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, Research Triangle Park, NC
Applications are invited from epidemiologists interested in methods and biostatisticians interested in epidemiology for a postdoctoral fellowship focused on breast cancer. This position is under the direction of Clarice Weinberg at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIH), located in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina. The successful candidate will carry out epidemiological and methodological research based on the recently completed Two Sister Study, a family-based study of genetic and environmental risk factors for young-onset (under 50) breast cancer. In addition to extensive questionnaire data from some 1400 sister case-control pairs, DNA samples were collected from them and from available parents, and genotypes for more than a million SNPs will offer a unique opportunity to detect joint effects of genetic and nongenetic factors. Family-based analyses also enable assessment of parent-of-origin effects and maternal effects in the etiology of young-onset breast cancer. Related research using the Sister Study, a prospective cohort study of more than 50,000 women will also be possible. See http://sisterstudy.org/English/index1.htm for more information about the sister studies, or contact Dr. Weinberg at weinber2@niehs.nih.gov.
Applicants should have a doctoral degree (or be near completion) in epidemiology or in biostatistics. Training and experience in genetic epidemiology is a plus but is not required. Stipends are determined by degree(s) and years of relevant postdoctoral experience; annual increases are available. Medical insurance is provided. The initial appointment is for 2 years, with extension possible for up to 5 years. Noncitizens are welcome to apply.
Applicants should send the following items to weinber2@niehs.nih.gov
• Letter describing areas of research interest
• Curriculum vitae with bibliography
• Contact information for 3 individuals serving as references.
The NIH is dedicated to building a diverse community in its training and employment programs.
