POST: SOFTWARE DEVELOPER
ICRISAT seeks applications from Indian nationals for a Software Developer. This is a joint position between AVRDC-The World Vegetable Centre and ICRISAT. This is a nationally recruited position and will be based at Patancheru, Andhra Pradesh, India.
ICRISAT is a non-profit, apolitical, international organization for science-based agricultural development. Established in 1972, it is a member of the Alliance of Centers of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR), and supported by more than 48 governments, foundations, and development banks. To reduce poverty, enhance crop productivity and food security and to protect the environment, ICRISAT research focuses on farming systems and crop improvement, management and utilization of sorghum, pearl millet, pigeonpea, chickpea, and groundnut in the semi-arid tropics.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
•To develop a web-based and standalone phenotyping data management system;
•Maintain coherent repository of genotyping and phenotyping information allowing public access and secondary use for integrated breeding;
•Define and implement data standards and best practices for breeding data management;
•To create training modules and other modules and facilitate course delivery;
•Perform any other related jobs assigned time to time.
COMPETENCIES:
•Proficiency in developing data management systems ;
•Ability to develop software in Java and allied software languages;
•Proficiency in computer skills (Ms-Office, data analysis) and communications skills;
•Ability to work collegially and collaboratively in diverse, multicultural partnerships;
•Experience with databases and commercial plant breeding software are an added advantage.
REQUIREMENTS:
•Masters in Information Technology/Computers, Bioinformatics or Information Science from a recognized University or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with extensive practical experience;
•5 or more years of experience in IT with at least 3 years of Bioinformatics experience;
•A willingness to travel nationally and internationally.
GENERAL: The position is on Fixed-Term Contract initially for one year, and renewable based on the performance of the incumbent, and the Institute’s continuing need for the position. An attractive compensation is offered for the right candidate.
