Appointment of Faculty under INSPIRE Faculty Scheme
The Centre S. N. Bose National Centre for Basic Sciences, Block JD, Sector III, Salt Lake, Kolkata 700 098 (established in 1986 with a 15 acre green campus) is an autonomous institution funded by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. The Centre with a current strength of nearly 30 faculties, more than 15 post doctoral research staff and about 130 students have research activities in focused areas of basic sciences. It has research activities (Theoretical, Computational and Experimental) in different areas of Physical, Chemical and Mathematical Sciences. In recent years, the Centre has made significant investment to upgrade its experimental research facilities and computational facilities (visit our website: www.bose.res.in).
The Centre runs a post M. Sc. and Post B.Sc, Research Programme.
 INSPIRE FACULTY SCHEME
The INSPIRE Faculty Scheme is a scheme initiated by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. Under this Scheme, young post-doctoral scholars below the age of 32 PhD can be appointed as INSPIRE faculty under contract for upto 5 years. The consolidated salary will be equivalent to that of an Assistant Professor at IIT. The Scheme provides also Rs. 7 lakh per year per scientist as a research start-up grant.
ABOUT THE CANDIDATE
The Centre is looking for Scientists and Academics with brilliant academic and research records in current areas of advanced basic sciences (established through steady publications in latest peer reviewed journals) for appointment under INSPIRE faculty scheme on a contractual basis for a maximum period of 5 years. (Please visit the website: www.inspire-dst.gov.in for details). The candidate should be below 32 years of age and can be a fresh Ph. D. or having post-doctoral experience of 1-2 years after PhD.
The candidates who have PhD done in one of the following areas will be given preference: Quantum Information, High Precision Spectro-microscopy, Astrophysical and Astronomical Observational Science, and Computational Physical and Chemical Sciences.
APPOINTMENT OF INSPIRE FACULTY AT THE CENTRE
The faculties selected for appointment will receive the benefits as per DST norms for INSPIRE faculty.
In addition to the start up grant given by DST, the Centre may consider additional initial equipment grant upto Rs. 35 lakhs for candidates who would set-up new facilities in designated areas. The grant will be based on submission of an internal project proposal.
The performance of the selected candidates will be monitored through regular evaluation. The candidates may be considered for absorption against existing vacancy within 5 years, subject to excellent performance as demonstrated by publications in Journals of high impact factor and on initiative shown. If not absorbed against an existing vacancy, the appointment is co-terminus with the tenure of the fellowship.

The selection will be based strictly on academic merits, research profile and strength of publications in peer review journals.
