National Conference on Diabetes mellitus and Cancer will be organized by the Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology on 17th December 2011. Diabetes mellitus, a leading metabolic disorder worldwide, has significant impact on health, quality of life and life expectancy of patients. Reasons for tremendous increase in the number of diabetic patients in India include increasing number of ageing population, sedentary life style and physical inactivity. Cancer is the major health problem worldwide and one of the most important causes of morbidity and mortality in children and adults. The incidence and death rate due to cancer in India will rise by the factor of 3 between the years 1991 and 2025 simply as a function of ageing and life style modifications.
Medicinal plants play an important role in the prevention of disease. India is rich source of traditional medicine which is plant based. A vast majority of Indians living in villages and tribal areas depend largely on medicinal plants and herbs for their health care needs. This conference will provide a forum for discussing the role of natural products and their bioactive constituents in the prevention of cancer and diabetes.
A large number of experts from different areas of Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Cytogenetics and Bioinformatics are expected to attend the conference. We request you to take this opportunity to participate in this conference. Your active participation is highly solicited. Kindly circulate this invitation to your colleagues and friends, who may be interested in attending such conference. Hope to see you all at our temple town, Chidambaram.
