JOB DESCRIPTION: The SIB Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics is seeking an experienced bioinformatics software developer to contribute to the development of STRING, a global protein-protein interaction network platform. The person will join the STRING development team, which is located in Zurich (at the Institute of Molecular Life Sciences, University of Zurich). STRING is heavily used and a long-standing biological database; it aims to aggregate all available knowledge on protein-protein interactions, and to augment it with predicted interactions from a variety of prediction algorithms. The advertised position involves the very challenging task of updating and modernizing the online software platform and the various back-end production pipelines of the resource, while maintaining previous investments into the code. The person will become part of the SIB and of the University of Zurich, and will be working in the group of Prof. Christian von Mering in Zurich. Regular participation in scientific seminars and retreats of the group is desired. Scientific experience in the bioinformatics field (e.g. authorships on publications) is a plus.
PROFILE REQUIREMENTS
Profile requirements:
•Production-level experience in Java, Perl & Python
•Experience in Scala
•Good knowledge of relational databases (PostgreSQL, PL/SQL)
•Experience with Linux system administration
•Previous productions with Google WebToolkit
•Experience with HTML & CSS, - Apache, Tomcat, WebServices
•Maven, Spring, Hibernate
•Shell script programming
DESIRABLE:
•Experience with MongoDB, Lucene, NFS, DNS
•Experience with building and maintaining scientific computing cluster.
