The Central Library of NIT, Rourkela has just been named after Hon'ble Biju Patnaik - the former Chief Minister of Orissa. It has been started functional since 1965. At present, the library holds more than 61,000 books and about 20,000 back volumes of periodicals. The library extends access to more than 20 full-text databases (ACS, ACM, ASCE, ASME, AIP, APS, AR, Bepress, Emerald, IEL, HBR, Nature, Muse, Proquest, Sage, Science Direct, SIAM, Springer Link, Taylor & Francis and Wiley), three (3) bibliographical databases (Scopus, SciFinder Scholar, MathSciNet) and one JCCC-INDEST gateway. Apart from the online databases the library holds ISI codes, educational video courses & cassettes and CD-ROMS etc. The library is fully automated with Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) using integrated library software package called Libsys – LSmart.
