CSIR-Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (CIMAP) invites applications from
enthusiastic young and dynamic Indian Nationals having excellent academic record/proven
Scientific achievements and the ability to undertake R&D in an innovative way for the following
posts of Scientists in the areas as given below:
Position No. 1: Principal Scientist (Biotechnology) in Pay Band-4 Rs.37400-67000 + GP 8700
(01 Post Unreserved-UR)
Essential Qualification: Ph.D. in the area of Plant Biotechnology / Plant Molecular Biology and
three years postdoctoral research experience in related area.
Desirable Qualification: Six years of postdoctoral research experience in Plant Molecular
Biology and Biochemistry with publications and proven experience.
Job Requirement:To work in the area of Biotechnology. The placement may be at CIMAP
Research Centre, Bangalore.
Age limit: Upto 45 years.
Position No. 2: Scientist / Senior Scientist(Bioinformatics/Biochemistry) in Pay Band-3
Rs.15600-39100* (01 post Unreserved-UR)
Essential Qualification: Ph.D. submitted in the area of Bioinformatics for Scientist OR Ph.D.in
the area of Bioinformatics with two years of research experience for Senior Scientist.
Desirable Qualification: Two years of postdoctoral research experience in
Bioinformatics/Biochemistry with publications and proven experience in Computational Biology
and wet-lab experience.
Job Requirement: To work in the area of Bioinformatics and Biochemistry including sequence
analysis, genome-wide analysis, protein docking studies and molecular dynamics, in-silico
analysis including proteins and small molecule interactions and protein-ligand dynamic studies,
predicted gene validation. The placement may be at CIMAP Research Centre, Bangalore.
Age limit: Upto 32 years for Scientist/ 37 years for Senior Scientist.
Position No. 3: Scientist / Senior Scientist (Project Planning & Management) in Pay Band-3
Rs.15600-39100* (01 post Unreserved-UR)
Essential Qualification: Ph.D. submitted in Botany/Chemistry for Scientist OR M.Sc. with
MBA / Post Graduate degree in Intellectual Property Law with three years experience / Ph.D. in
Botany/Chemistry with two years experience for Senior Scientist
Desirable Qualification: Minimum one year experience in Project Management, Planning and
Monitoring.
Job Requirement: To work in the area of project planning, performance and monitoring and
extend help in human resource development activities.
Age limit : Upto 32 years for Scientist / 37 years for Senior Scientist.
Position No. 4: Scientist / Senior Scientist (Plant Biochemistry/Microbiology) in Pay Band-3

Essential Qualification : Ph.D. submitted in the area of Biochemistry/Microbiology for Scientist
OR Ph.D. in the area of Biochemistry/Microbiology with two years research experience in Plant
Biochemistry/Microbiology for Senior Scientist.
Desirable Qualification: Postdoctoral research experience in the related area supported with
publications.
Job Requirement: Basic and applied studies in the area of
Biochemistry/Microbiology/Molecular Biology/ Plant protection in medicinal and aromatic
plants.
Age limit : Upto 32 years for Scientist / 37 years for Senior Scientist. (Upper age limit

Position No. 5: Scientist / Senior Scientist (Microbiology) in Pay Band-3 Rs.15600-39100*
(01 post Unreserved-UR)
Essential Qualification : Ph.D. submitted in Microbiology/Life Sciences for Scientist OR Ph.D.
in Microbiology/Life Sciences with two years postdoctoral research experience in related area
for Senior Scientist.
Desirable Qualification: Two years experience of working in microbial research with research
publications.
Job Requirement :To work in the area of Microbiology. Likely place of work, CIMAP
Research Centre, Bangalore.
Age limit : Upto 32 years for Scientist / 37 years for Senior Scientist.
Position No. 6: Scientist / Senior Scientist (Information & Communication Technology) in
Pay Band-3 Rs.15600-39100* (01 post Unreserved-UR)
Essential Qualification : ME/M.Tech. in Computer Science/Information Technology for
Scientist OR ME/M.Tech in Computer Science/Information Technology with minimum three
years research experience in related area for Senior Scientist.
Desirable Qualification: Three years Experience in the area of Networking,LAN/WAN
management & its Security, Server & System administration, Software Development using .net
Technologies, Knowledge of Database administration (Oracle/MS SQL Server), ERP applications
and computerization activities, Virtual Private Network (VPN), knowledge of active directory
implementation, virtualization techniques, SAN management etc. and/or Geographical
Information System (GIS) related areas.
Job Requirement : To help in implementation of ERP applications, rolling of the NKN(National
Knowledge Network) initiative of CSIR at CIMAP and its Research Centres, automation and
digitization of Knowledge Resource Center and help in computerization and workflow
management of PME, ICT, HR and implementation of RS-GIS projects.
Age limit : Upto 32 years for Scientist / 37 years for Senior Scientist.
(*Positioning of the candidate as Scientist or Senior Scientist for positions No. 02 to 06 in terms
of a particular grade i.e. Grade Pay Rs.6600/- OR Rs.7600/- in PB-3 (15600-39100) shall be done
by the Selection Committee depending upon the performance of the candidate subject to
meeting the minimum criterion specified.)
GENERAL CONDITIONS:
(1)All the posts carry usual allowances at the same rates as are admissible to the Central
Government employees at the place of posting. Higher start may be given to exceptionally
meritorious and deserving candidates. (2) The selected candidates will be governed by the
provisions of the New Pension Scheme as introduced by the Government of India and as adopted
by CSIR effective from 01.01.2004. (3) Relaxation in age limit, qualification and/or experience
may be considered as per CSIR Scientist Recruitment and Assessment Promotion (CSR&AP)
Rules, 2001 and subsequent amendments from time to time (4) Persons employed in
Government/Government undertakings/Autonomous bodies are required to submit their
applications through proper channel and with a clear certificate from respective employee that
the applicant will be relieved in case of selection, within one month of receipt of offer of
appointment. (5) Persons desirous to apply for more than one post may submit separate
application for each post with separate application fee. (6) The selected persons should be ready
to serve at any of the offices/Resource Centre of CIMAP located at Lucknow, Bangalore,
Hyderabad, Pantnagar, Purara (Distt. Bageshwar) or at any place of posting in India. (7) Upper
age limit is relaxable as indicated against the post. (8) Relaxation in age limit up to five years
may be allowed to the Council/Government/ Autonomous Bodies/Public Sector employees in
accordance with the instructions and orders issued by the Government of India from time to time
in this regard. (9) The upper age limit will be reckoned as on 31.08.2011 which is relaxable as per
Government orders in force from time to time. (10) The period of experience in the requisite
discipline/area of work wherever prescribed, shall be counted with effect from the date of
acquiring the prescribed minimum educational qualifications required for the post. (11) The cut
off date for determining the qualification and experience of a candidate will be the last date of
receipt of applications. (12) The physically handicapped persons fulfilling the prescribed
qualifications and experience are also encouraged to apply. (13) Mere fulfillment of essential
educational qualifications & experience does not entitle a candidate to be called for Interview.
The decision of CIMAP/CSIR in all matters relating to eligibility, acceptance or rejection of
applications, mode of selection, conduct of interview will be final and binding on the candidates
and no enquiry or correspondence will be entertained in this connection from any candidate or
his/her agency. (14) Incomplete applications and applications not supported by attested copies of
certificates of educational qualifications, experience certificate, community certificate,
testimonials, list of publications, reprints and application fee are liable to be summarily rejected.
(15) Canvassing in any form and bringing in influence political or otherwise will be treated as
disqualification.

CIMAP website which can be downloaded from www.cimap.res.in OR it can be obtained from
the Administrative Officer, Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants, Post Office-
CIMAP, Lucknow- 226015, India by sending a self addressed & stamped envelope of 23x10 cms.
Size, indicating number of Advertisement, Position No. and Name of the post applied for,
affixing a postal stamp worth Rs. 10/- by 24th August, 2011.
Applications on prescribed form duly completed in all respects alongwith a recent
passport size photograph, attested copies of certificates of educational qualification, experience
certificate, reprints of published papers, community certificate (in the case of SC/ST/OBC etc.)
and application fee of Rs. 100/- only (no fee is payable by the candidates belonging to SC/ST
community, Physically Handicapped persons and regular employees of CSIR) through an A/c
payee Bank Draft of State Bank of India (SBI) with a six months validity, drawn at State Bank of
India, Main Branch, Lucknow in favour of Director, Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic
Plants, Lucknow OR Director, CIMAP, Lucknow payable at Lucknow should be sent on or
before 31st August, 2011. Fee once paid shall not be refunded under any circumstances.
Applications received after the due date will not be entertained. Applicant should also submit a
