Two events of the past decade have transformed the focus and depth of research in Nucleic Acids. First is the availability of human genome sequence and the expanding genomic database at NCBI. More than 1500 complete genome sequences are now available and several SNP databases have gone on-line. Second, less well-known, is the evolution of accurate atomic models of oligonucleotides in solution via molecular dynamics simulations which has culminated in the creation of Ascona B-DNA consortium (ABC) with global participation. ABC has already characterized the structure and dynamics of B-DNA with all possible tetranucleotide combinations. The ABC generated knowledge supplemented with experiment promises to facilitate reading the book of genome like any novel in the near future, allowing researchers to fix/cure typographical, grammatical and syntax errors/ diseases and disorders in the book.

The conference being organized by the Kusuma School of Biological Sciences, IIT Delhi, on "Nucleic Acids in Disease & Disorders", proposes to address the diverse issues pertaining to structure, dynamics, stability, interaction and function of nucleic acids and evolve a way forward.
