Research Associate Positions in Tomato Functional Genomics and Metabolomics

At University of Hyderabad, we are having a vibrant group on Tomato Functional Genomics, which is working on TILLING (Targeting Induced Local Lesions IN Genomes), Insertional Mutagenesis, proteomics and fruit ripening in tomato. Some of the current aims of the group include using reverse genetics to isolate tomato mutants delayed in ripening, having high lycopene and folate content in tomato fruits and analysis of light and hormonal signal transduction pathways. For recent publications of the group see (Plant Physiol 156: 1424- 1438; Molecular Plant 3: 854-869; Plant Methods 6: 3; Plant Methods 5:18; Plant Signaling and Behavior 5:11.).

Currently we have following research associate positions available under “Tomato Metabolome Network” (ToMaNet) funded by Dept of Biotechnology under following project entitled “Biofortification of tomato by targeted manipulation of the biosynthetic pathways”under supervision of Prof. R.P. Sharma, at Dept of Plant Sciences, School of Life Sciences, University of Hyderabad. The research associate would be offered fellowships of ` 24,000/- pm + HRA. The qualifications for the Research Associate Positions are as follows:

RESEARCH ASSOCIATE I: Applicants should have experience in plant functional genomics, RNAi/VIGS, Next Gen Sequencing preferably in tomato or other crop plants and should be supported by publications. PhD in molecular biology is required.

RESEARCH ASSOCIATE II: Applicants should have experience in identifying natural plant products using NMR and/or Mass spectrometry and should be supported by publications. PhD in Chemistry of Natural Products is required.

RESEARCH ASSOCIATE III: Applicants should have experience in bioinformatics for handling genome sequencing/proteome/metabolite analyses and should be supported by publications. PhD in Bioinformatics is required.

 A postdoctoral fellow position is available in the Molecular Biology of DNA Section of the Laboratory of Molecular Biology in the National Cancer Institute. The focus of our research is to understand the mechanisms that underlie ATP-dependent protein remodeling carried out by molecular chaperone machines and the role of chaperones in ATP-dependent proteolysis. Our goal is to provide the foundation for discovering preventions and treatments for diseases that involve protein aggregation, misfolding or premature degradation, including cancer, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, type II diabetes, cystic fibrosis, and prion diseases. Current projects include studies of Hsp90, Hsp70 and Clp/Hsp100 proteins. Our projects utilize methodologies in molecular biology, biochemistry, biophysics, genetics, cell biology, and proteomics and primarily employ E. coli and yeast as model organisms.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

THE UPPER AGE LIMIT:

A )Senior Chemist , Chemist & Research Associates: 40 years for men and 45 years for women as on the date of interview

b) Senior Research Fellow:35 years for men & 40 years for women as on the date of interview

(Relaxation in age will be allowed for SC/ST/OBC etc.,as per ICAR/Govt. of India norms.)

1. The above positions are purely time-bound, non-regular and on co-terminus with the concerned project. The services of the incumbent will stand terminated automatically after the expiry of scheme /duration and the candidate will not have any right for absorption in NRC Grapes / ICAR / any other schemes.

2. No TA/DA will be paid to attend the interview.

3. The Interview is scheduled on 11th June, 2012 .

Applications are invited from eligible candidates for 1 [One] position of Junior Research Fellow on a temporary contractual basis in Department of ICMR, New Delhi project entitled "Characterization and transferability of antibiotic resistance genes in lactic acid bacteria from poultry and meat products", tenable at Food Microbiology Department, CSIR-CFTRI, Mysore, Karnataka.

 ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATION: First Class M.Sc. in Microbiology/Biotechnology/Biochemistry with good academic records and should have been qualified for lecturership in National Eligibility Test conducted by CSIR-UGC or ICMR/PGI in Life Sciences.

EMOLUMENTS: Rs.16,000/- per month for first two years and Rs.18,000/- per month in the 3rd year plus RA as per ICMR / CSIR Rules.

TERMS & CONDITIONS:

1.Candidates should not have exceeded 28 years of age as on 15-06-2012, i.e. the last date of receipt of applications for the post.

2.The engagement of JRF is exclusively for the above mentioned project.

3.The engagement will be contractual and on purely temporary basis in the project funded by ICMR, Govt. of India for a maximum period of three years and is co-terminus with the project, if the project terminates earlier.

4.The engagement under externally funded project does not confer any right/ claim whatsoever either explicitly or implicitly on the appointee for regular appointment in CSIR/ CFTRI, against any post or otherwise under any legal conditions precedent.

5.No TA/DA will be given to the candidates for attending the interview.
