ICRISAT seeks applications from dynamic and innovative scientists for Scientist/Senior Scientist (Groundnut Breeding), in Internationally Recruited Staff (IRS) Cadre, to be based at Kano, Nigeria.

The Job: Develop improved breeding lines and varieties of groundnut; plan and execute experiments in crop improvement; analyze, summarize, and interpret the data of the experiments; prepare reports and papers for publication in the reputed journals; prepare project proposals for donor funding; and interact with partners and collaborate with experts from other disciplines and end users (farmers, traders, consumers, etc.) to add value to the crop and enhance livelihood opportunities for the poor in the SAT.
The Person: Scientists with PhD degree from a reputed university in plant breeding and/or genetics, with a minimum five to seven years of post-doctoral experience as plant breeder/geneticist at a research institute/university/private sector company. Knowledge of quantitative genetics theory and its application in practical plant breeding of self-pollinated crops and basic computer skills is essential. Knowledge of marker-aided selection in crop improvement will be an additional desirable requirement. Fluency in spoken and written English is essential. The Scientist should have aptitude to work as a member of interdisciplinary teams in multicultural environment, and should have the ability to interact with partner organizations.

The Person: The candidates should be PhD in Plant Breeding and/or Genetics with a minimum of five to seven years of post-doctoral experience. Knowledge and experience of genetic resources collection, conservation, characterization, utilization and experience of analysis of large sized datasets and developing germplasm subsets, and gap analysis for collecting is essential. Preference will be given to candidates with a strong publication record. Ability to work in a multidisciplinary, multi-cultural environment of the institute is important.

The Job:
·         As a member of ICRISAT's Research Committee, the RPD-Dryland Cereals contributes to the planning, implementing, delivering, and reporting of research outputs and impacts as outlined in ICRISAT's Strategic Plan, Business Plan, Medium Term Plan and the CGIAR Research Programs (CRPs) in which ICRISAT leads and participates.
·         Ensure science quality, research excellence and internal cross-Research Program interactions and teamwork across the institute.
·         Lead the development, resourcing/fundraising and reporting of relevant CRPs and bilateral research projects in coordination with the Research Committee and the Director of Strategic Marketing and Communication.
The Responsibilities Include:
·         Establish, monitor and evaluate Research Program scientists’ research work plans and performance, and provide oversight of their respective Research Program budget.
·         Conduct research (with a minimum of 20% to a maximum of 40% time) in an area of relevance to Research Program, CRP and area of expertise.

The Person:

·         At least 10 years and more of post-doctoral research experience in plant breeding, molecular genetics, genomics, molecular biology or marker-assisted breeding with considerable Experience as a Research Leader in a reputed  international organization is highly desirable.
·         A record of achievement with academic publications, development and management of research grants, and capacity building initiatives.

“Electron Microscopic Techniques: holey film, carbon film and ultramicrotomy”

The aim of the workshop is to provide participants an overview of basic electron microscopic techniques in biology like specimen substrate preparation and ultramicrotomy. There will be lectures as well as wet- lab sessions.

Participation is free and mainly intended for research scholars, technical personnel and junior faculties. However, efforts will be made to accommodate others if space permits.

5.                Applicants may clearly mention the category they belong to i.e. SC/ST/OBC/PH and attach documentary proof of the same.
6                  No TA/DA will be paid for attending the interview if called for.

HOW TO APPLY

Interested candidates may apply directly, strictly in the prescribed format given below, through e-mail, to the Investigator of the project, clearly indicating the name of the project along with their complete C.V., e-mail id, fax numbers, telephone numbers. Short listed candidates will be required to submit attested copies of all their certificates and a Demand Draft of  Rs. 100/- drawn on Canara Bank or Indian Bank payable at Delhi / New Delhi in favour of the Director, NII (SC/ST and PH candidates are exempted  subject to submission of documentary proof), at the time of interview.


(Please note that the candidates who have appeared for Final year M.Sc and awaiting their results are not eligible. Only those candidates whose results have been declared at the time of submission of application may apply).
