Qualifications
Essential: Ph.D. in Agricultural or Life Sciences/Natural Sciences (Chemistry/Biochemistry/Soil/Agronomy).
Age: 45 years and above, but not older than 55 years.
Experience: Minimum 20 years of R&D experience out of which at least 7 years should be in a senior supervisory position. Years of research experience (Basic and/or Applied) will be computed from the  beginning of the career as a Scientist only. Experience in the development of technology and it’s commercialization/use for the users/beneficiaries will be an added advantage.
 Candidate: Should be creative, innovative and a well-recognized scientist in India and abroad.
International exposure will be an added advantage. The candidate should be able to provide leadership in R&D to a team of highly motivated team of researchers and Sr Scientists, and should be able to attract research funds as evidenced from the number of local/regional/international R&D projects handled and the publications in peer reviewed high impact factor journals. The candidate should have good exposure of national and international trends in research and development and should have broad exposures of working in different national and international institutes so that the candidate can represent the institute at national and international fora. The candidate should be able to create a conducive environment for a high class research and development.
Responsibilities: The Director shall be responsible for creating a congenial working environment for realizing the vision and mission of the Institute and should be able to give boost to the existing areas
 of research and should be an exemplary visionary to realize future requirements in this era of global change to make the Institute parallel to the world R&D institutes.
Appointment
The appointment to the post of Director will be for a period of three/five years which is renewable or till the age of superannuation at 60 years, whichever is earlier in the pay scale of Rs 67,000–79,000 (annual increment @3%) plus allowances as admissible. To foster collaborations with the Centre’s faculty and to provide research opportunities, the Centre offers Visiting Fellowships to research scientists working in educational institutions and R&D laboratories in India. Visiting fellows are associated with faculty and honorary faculty of the Centre, and the research work is carried out in the host institution in the broad areas of Life Sciences (including molecular and developmental biology, chronobiology, genetics, ecology, behaviour); Materials Sciences (including nanoscience); Chemical Sciences (including solid-state chemistry, theoretical/computational chemistry, and inorganic, physical and organic chemistry); Physical  Sciences (including experimental and theoretical condensed-matter and materials physics, statistical physics, organic electronics and experimental nano biotechnology); Engineering Sciences (including fluid dynamics, nonlinear dynamics, and thermal and chemical engineering); and Atmospheric Sciences. The fellowship is tenable for 3 months and the total period of stay in the Centre should be no less than 60 days. The fellowship carries an honorarium of Rs 25,000 per month. The timing of the visit may be decided according to mutual convenience. Research scientists/engineers (preferably  with a Ph.D.), who have permanent positions in educational institutions; R&D laboratories, etc. are invited to apply. The Winter School is aimed to provide the participating young researchers with hands on training in the area of Agrobacterium mediated transformation and characterization of the transgenic plants. This will include construction of plant transformation vectors, mobilization of binary vectors into Agrobacterium, plant transformation, selection and regeneration of transgenic plants, screening and characterization of transgenic plants. The workshop consists of theory classes, in basic and contemporary topics in immunology and focuses on hands-on training in immunological techniques. No specific format is required for applying. The Regional Centre for Biotechnology (RCB) invites applications for RCB-Young Investigator Awards  from the eligible candidates. RCB-Young Investigator Awards are designed to identify and nurture outstanding young scientists with innovative ideas who are desirous of pursuing research in frontier areas of biotechnology related (but not limited) to structural, systems and synthetic biology, nano  science and technology, cellular and molecular biology, disease biology, and data-intensive discovery research, under the mentorship of senior faculty at the Regional Centre for Biotechnology.
Young scientists (below the age of 35) having Ph.D. degree (or likely to have on or before the date of interview) in any discipline of natural sciences are eligible to apply.
The award shall be initially for the duration of three years, subject to annual review. It may be further extended for additional two years, based on a review by a Committee of experts. The award carries a consolidated stipend of Rs 40,000 per month. The awardee shall not be entitled to draw any other fellowship or salary.
