Computational Biologist position at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Bronx, NY

Albert Einstein College of Medicine
POST: Computational biologist
JOB LOCATION: Bronx, NY
JOB DESCRIPTION:
We seek a computational biologist with strong technical skills in bioinformatics and biostatistics to work on research that explores the role of molecular variability as a regulator of phenotype. We are looking for highly motivated people to join our new lab and help drive a new field of science.
The focus of the Mar lab is to understand how variability in biological signals, such as gene expression affects the regulatory capacity and plasticity of gene networks and the downstream consequences for phenotype. We are interested in exploring the link between transcriptional variability and models of incomplete penetrance. Early evidence, from our lab and others, supports the importance of variability as a window into studying diversity in normal human populations, with potential implications for disease processes.
At least two projects are available for an immediate start. One project explores the role of transcriptional variability in regulating pluripotency in human embryonic stem cells. A second project explores the role of transcriptional plasticity as a mechanism for conferring differential abilities to buffer disease and fight infections in healthy donors. We currently have collaborations with labs working on embryonic stem cells, adult stem cells, hematopoietic stem cells, reprogramming, obesity, cancer, and tissue-specific transcriptional networks. We have access to gene expression data sets, including some at the single cell level. Our collaborators are based in Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney, Japan, Sweden, Toronto, California, Boston and New York.
The candidate will ideally have training in linear modeling, multivariate analysis, inference, probability and scientific computing. Most critically, the candidate is able to work on problems involving network algorithms, machine learning, and classification. Proficiency in R is required, with some skills in Python and C. The candidate should preferably be familiar with at least one area of biology.
The Albert Einstein College of Medicine is an equal opportunity employer. We welcome applications from all interested and qualified scientists.
Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Jack and Pearl Resnick Park, 1300 Morris Park Ave, Bronx NY 10461.

POST: Postdoctoral Fellow(Vascular Development in the Zebrafish)
A fully funded postdoctoral position is available to study vascular development in the zebrafish in the laboratory of Brant Weinstein in the Program in Genomics of Differentiation (PGD) at the NICHD in Bethesda, MD. Our group uses molecular, cellular, genetic, and transgenic approaches to study the specification, patterning, and differentiation of the developing vascular system. Some of our current areas of research interest include: understanding endothelial specification and differentiation into arteries, veins and lymphatics; understanding how vessels assemble into reproducibly patterned networks and what cues guide this patterning; studying how endothelial cells undergo morphogenesis into tubular vessels in vivo using high-resolution multiphoton imaging and experimental manipulation; and isolating novel vascular-specific mutants and studying the molecular basis for their defects. Scientific environment, resources, and stipend support for this position are superb. See http://uvo.nichd.nih.gov/   for additional information on the Weinstein lab and http://science.nichd.nih.gov/confluence/display/pgd/Home   for additional information on the PGD.

PDF position(Developmental Biology in Zebrafish and Xenopus)at Eunice Kennedy Shriver Institute of Child Health and Human Development, Bethesda

Eunice Kennedy Shriver Institute of Child Health and Human Development, Bethesda, MD and surrounding area
POST: Postdoctoral Fellow(Developmental Biology in Zebrafish and Xenopus)
We are interested in molecular regulatory mechanisms in embryogenesis. Current studies include the function of the E3 ubiquitin ligase Lnx2. We have shown previously that Lnx-2b regulates primary axis formation by limiting the organizer domain, and has a role in antero-posterior axis formation in cooperation with E4f1. We currently study the role of Lnx-2a in organogenesis. An additional focus of research is the regulation of neural crest development. Of particular interest is the protein factor Kctd15 which inhibits neural crest formation, presumably for the purpose of restricting the domain of neural crest specification. The mechanism of Kctd15 action is a major focus of research.
This position is located in the laboratory headed by Igor Dawid within the Program in Genomics of Differentiation, NICHD.
